A MUM-OF-THREE refused to send her children to school – and instead chose to travel the world with them.

Mrs Richardson, a beauty salon owner, returns to the UK from time to time before flying with her family.

And when it comes to education, the mother, whose children are five, four and two, prefers to educate them at home and in the world.

World schooling is an educational approach in which families use the world as a classroom, where they learn by visiting different countries.

Mrs. Richardson is proud to travel with her children all over the world and believes it is a much better option than sending them to school.

However, she found that her parenting style did not sit well with other parents.

She took to TikTok to share one of her experiences explaining her choice of parenting.

Mrs. subtitled this: “You will not be arrested for not sending your children to school

“Once you register your children, you can do whatever you want. You are authorized”

“You have a choice.”

Speaking to the camera, the mom first explained that she was getting her nails done at her salon while talking to another client about taking the kids on her trips.

She explained that the client agreed with her as they were very young and it was best to “do it while they were young, before they went to school.”

Mrs. Richardson then responded by saying she would not send her children to school.

She then went on to talk about “the horror” in customers’ reactions to her, while being asked what she would do with her children.

People don’t know you have a choice, and you do. You don’t need to send your children to school

Mrs.

The mother continued: “I was like, ‘Oh, well, let’s homeschool them and around the world. I’m not sending them to school.’”

The mother was then asked if she was “permitted” to do this, to which she said: “Yes, you are allowed to do this. Who will stop me?”

Ms Richardson couldn’t believe the reaction she received and explained that there is a “crazy mentality” around not sending children to school.

She wants to raise awareness that parents “have a choice” and “you don’t have to” send them to school.

She then explained that homeschooling is “actually the default option” and “school is actually an optional option.”

The mother ended the story by saying: “The reaction was like: are you going to get arrested?

What are the laws about sending your children to school

O UK Government website says:

“You must ensure that your child receives a full-time education that meets their needs (for example, if they have special educational needs). You can send your child to school or educate them yourself.

“Children must receive education between the school term after their 5th birthday and the last Friday in June of the school year in which they turn 16.

“You will be contacted by:

  • school – if your child is enrolled at school and doesn’t show up (even if they only miss one day)
  • the council’s educational welfare officer – if you feel your child is not receiving an adequate education at home

“You can be prosecuted if you don’t give your child an education. Typically you will first receive warnings and offers of help from the local council.”

How do you unenroll your child from school?

Homeschool Website Shine says: “The official and legal process is to send a letter to the principal of your child’s school stating that you would like the school to cancel your child’s enrollment.

“This letter is an important document, so it’s a good idea to hand deliver it or send it by registered mail.”

However, there are other things that are legally required depending on where you are in the UK, especially England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales, so it’s best to check with your local council first.

“People don’t know you have a choice, and you do. You don’t need to send your children to school.”

The video received a lot of attention, with many rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts.

“We are so conditioned that school is the only option! Scary,” said one TikTok user.

“The amount of people I hear this from is crazy. The same people constantly call schools to complain about the quality of education, so many don’t really know this is an option,” added another.

A third mum, who also did the same, said: “I homeschooled for a year and it was the best decision ever – putting him back into the GCSE years and it was tough but we did it. He’s successful now!

“School is NOT the ONLY CHOICE.” A fourth wrote: “Homeschooling is hard but worth it.”
