AFTER buying a new home, one person realized they weren’t alone.

The house was infested with frightening insects, some described as “creepy”.

Editor Rema_o_barco_0115 reported the horror in a comment on the social media platform.

They explained that when they bought the house, it was completely infested with insects.

“Some were so unusual I couldn’t even identify what they were,” they said.

“[They were] these mutant-looking crickets and very scary-looking gigantic centipedes.”

CLEAN THE HOUSE

The new owner decided to get rid of the unwanted guests forever.

They caulked the windows to seal any openings and added insulation to keep the doors secure.

They also got rid of any leaves or other organic debris that were scattered around the exterior of the house.

Then they cut back the vegetation, keeping the bushes at least a few feet away from their new residence.

They also did the usual deep cleaning, scrubbing the inside of the house.

“Just these small changes over time have helped dramatically with the bugs,” they said.

How to treat an insect bite or sting

They added that the house was occupied before they moved in.

“I just think the previous owners weren’t bothered by the bugs, so no preventative work was done,” they said.

IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM

Other Redditors worked together to help identify the creatures the owner saw.

“They give me the creeps,” said the owner. “Not even my dog will attack them.”

Eventually, they learned that the creatures were “spider crickets.”

“This is the ugly, mutant cricket,” they said of the creature. “I’m glad my description was enough to explain what the hell I was seeing.”

Spider crickets are also known as camel crickets, cave crickets or sand walkers.

They earned their nickname due to their long, arachnid-like legs.

Despite their appearance, they are completely harmless to humans.

Spider crickets are primarily scavengers that can jump long distances, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation.
