A POWERLIFTER has explained why she still lifts weights while 35 weeks pregnant.
Olivia Enriquez, 25, decided to continue her gym life despite being pregnant.
She argues that she has continued to safely lift weights to maintain her fitness and hopes to maintain as much strength as possible.
The gym enthusiast lifted, with adjustments, during her pregnancy and loved being able to maintain her fitness lifestyle.
Olivia, from Houston, Texas, explained that she refused to let labor affect her physical health.
“I’m keeping as much muscle and strength as I can!” she said.
“I plan to continue lifting weights throughout my pregnancy, adjusting as needed.
“Overall, I feel like lifting weights contributed to less pain and I hope it helps with my postpartum as well.”
Olivia shared videos of herself working on TikTok, and viewers were shocked by her determination and perseverance.
Someone joked that weight loss, or a “cut,” will have a different impact post-pregnancy.
“The cut is going to be crazy after this baby!”, they said.
“Wow!” said another.
“It looks amazing! …And strong as hell!!” added a third.
Health professionals have revealed that training during pregnancy can continue under medical supervision.
“I always recommend that anyone who is pregnant, especially those involved in high-intensity activities such as weight lifting, has a full consultation with their GP,” said Dr Lawrence Cunningham of UK Care Guide.
“This includes ongoing monitoring of your health and the health of your unborn baby, along with adjustments to your routine as your pregnancy progresses.”
Cunningham added that mothers should be cautious about strenuous and demanding activities.
“It is essential to listen to your body’s signals and reduce intensity when necessary,” he said.
“Additionally, maintaining proper form and technique becomes even more crucial to avoid injuries.
“Safety will largely depend on the individual’s pre-pregnancy fitness level, their experience with weightlifting, and their health during pregnancy.”
“I have seen cases where professional athletes were able to maintain a high level of activity during pregnancy without any adverse effects.
“However, this should not be considered the norm and should definitely not be taken as a blanket endorsement for all pregnant women.
“The critical factor will always be the body’s response during pregnancy, which obviously varies significantly from one person to another.”
