Instead of just a single first or second class stamp, buyers’ package was marked with six royal stamps.

The winner, who is from the UK, took to social media to share her amazement, showing off her post decorated with Princess Diana stamps from 1998.

Along with the post, which was shared on ‘moderately interesting‘, Reddit user, who writes under the username @IndigoBlue14, wrote: “My copper wire from eBay arrived with SIX different collectible stamps from the 1998 Princess Diana memorial.”

Each stamp denoted a beautiful photo of the late Princess Diana, and they were all marked with the number 26.

Stunned by the stamps, the woman shared: “It was delivered by the postman straight to me, but I thought they needed to be stamped.”

Each stamp was valued at 26p at the time – a stark contrast to the current £1.35 for a first class stamp.

But now, these collectible stamp sets are being sold on eBay for £99 – yes, you heard correctly.

And interestingly, another Reddit user claimed to have recently received a package from the same seller.

The woman said, “Hey, you ordered from the same seller as me.

“I also bought copper wire and a package covered in train stamps from the ’70s and ’80s.”

Found a book for £1.50 in a charity shop – had no idea I hit the jackpot

To this the author replied: “Someone [is] using a collection of stamps from dead relatives, I suspect.

“This is genuine and the seller and I are in the UK, not the US.”

REDDIT USER REACTION

Many other Reddit users were delighted with the seller’s unusual approach, and one even requested the stamps.

A Reddit user asked: “If you don’t collect stamps, is there any chance you can send them to me?

It seems strange, but maybe these stamps are still valid

“My mom collects stamps and I’m sure she would love it!”

In response, the author replied: “I don’t collect stamps. Send me a PM and I’ll be happy to send you the envelope.”

Another Redditor wrote: “Stamp collecting is a good example of scarcity without demand.”

At the same time, a third user explained: “It seems strange, but maybe these stamps are still valid.”

BRITS who have an old stamp collection cluttering their home may not realize they could be sitting on a small fortune.

The popularity of stamp collecting has seen a decline, largely attributed to the rise of modern technology, but some stamps can be worth thousands.

Stamp collectors – known as philatelists – who have hung on to their old stamp collections can end up laughing all the way to the bank if they choose wisely.

Stamp collectors, or philatelists as they are commonly called, who have kept up their old hobby may end up laughing all the way to the bank – but only if they choose wisely.

Many of the world’s most valuable stamps were issued in the United Kingdom.

And if you’re lucky enough to own one of the rarest, you could make up to £500,000 trading it.

We have collected four of the rarest and most valuable.

  • Features: Black ink, profile of Queen Victoria.

2. Two Blue Pennies (1840)

  • Meaning: Second adhesive postage stamp.
  • Value: Up to £5,000 for a stamp in perfect condition.
  • Features: Same design as Penny Black, but in blue.

3. Plate 77 Penny Red (1863)

  • Value: Up to £500,000.
  • Features: Red ink, profile of Queen Victoria, identifier “Plate 77”.

While one eBay seller shared: “Can I clarify. I’m also an eBay seller and with postage costs rising, some of us have started buying old and useless stamp collections from other sites for less than the price.

“The USPS doesn’t care how many or what type of stamps you use as long as the cost of postage is covered.”

Afterwards, someone else wrote: “Right now, people aren’t collecting stamps. The older generation that did it is dead or dying.

“When you take these very rare stamps for resale, there is simply no one who will buy them, at least not at a price that would be considered reasonable.”

Today, Royal Mail has mandated the inclusion of barcodes on all stamps as part of its extensive modernization efforts.

However, there are some exceptions to the change, such as Royal Mail said: “Special edition stamps produced as one-offs to commemorate an event as we are not adding barcodes to these types of stamps, therefore non-barcoded versions remain valid for posting after January 31, 2023.”

The chain added: “Christmas Stamps: Although we are adding barcodes to Christmas stamps – Christmas stamps without a barcode will remain valid as postage after January 31, 2023 – so there is no need to exchange them.”
