A LAUNDRY professional has shared the DIY method she uses to remove tough stains from clothes.
She demonstrated the simple trick on her husband’s oil-stained work shirt.

First, she documented the appearance of her husband’s uniform before addressing the oil stains.
The housewife then used white chalk to draw on each of the stubborn oil stains.

She recommended using sidewalk chalk like 99c Pack of 12 colored pencils of the target.
“This helps absorb stains,” she explained to fellow Reddit users.
“You’ll notice there are more chalk marks than actual stains in the first photo, this is because I could see some stains that just didn’t show up in the photos.”
After covering each of the oil stains with chalk, she moved on to the next step.
“Add Dawn dish soap on top of the stains after you put the chalk on them,” she wrote.
“Let it sit for about five to 10 minutes, depending on the saturation of the stain.”
After letting the chalk and detergent work, she moved on to the final step.
“Throw it in the washing machine with your other clothes as normal,” she said.
The Redditor showed his followers a side-by-side comparison of the shirt before and after performing his hack.
She described herself as “very happy with the results.”
“I’ve been using this method for these types of stains for over 11 years and it always works with several different types of washing machines and different laundry detergents,” she said.
She added that her water softener helps with the process without using a lot of detergent.
Tips for removing yellow sweat stains
Yellow spots on armpits affect everyone, whether people admit it or not. But there is help available. To remove yellow stains from clothes, experts recommend the following methods:
- Baking soda paste: Professionals in The Laundry Café I recommend mixing a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide with a tablespoon of salt and ½ cup of baking soda. Apply directly to the stain with a toothbrush, scrub and let the mixture sit for at least an hour and then wash as normal.
- Oxygen Bleach: This method is equally useful for removing yellow stains. Mix one part oxygen bleach with one part ammonia in a non-metallic bowl. Wear gloves during this application. Rub it into the fabric with a toothbrush and let the solution sit for at least ten minutes before washing normally.
- Stain remover or detergent: Stains on collars can be difficult to remove, like underarm stains. Therefore, pre-treat the area using a stain remover or solvent-based detergent. Apply the product to the collar with a toothbrush and let it sit for at least ten minutes before washing.
“Any detergent or washing machine should be able to handle this type of stain,” she said.
Reddit users shared their own DIY laundry methods in the comments section.
“I do something similar, but I make a paste with baking soda and washing powder. I think baking soda works the same way as chalk,” wrote one reader.
“Baby powder on the grease stain for a few hours and then washing normally is what my grandmother showed me as a child,” said another person.
“Enzymatic detergents can also work great for oil-based stains!!!” suggested a Reddit user.
