My curtain trick will make your windows look bigger and let in more light – don’t put them up like most people do

A HOMEOPER with a luxurious sense of style has revealed how a budget-friendly curtain cut has improved rooms in his home.

They said that simply hanging curtains in a specific way can make a home feel more spacious and bright.

The interior design enthusiast posted his hack on the Ask Reddit forum using the handle you/brienoconan.

They said it’s important to have a plan before transforming any room to make the most of the space.

Decorative curtains are at the top of their feature list as they suggest installing a double curtain rod with outdoor and sheer curtains.

“Now here’s a trick for curtains – you don’t have to assemble the curtains to the exact shape of your window,” they said.

“Most people do that, and if you do that, you lose some of the window to the curtains and you can never light up that space.

“If you mount them slightly outside the window, you can make it appear larger and more light can enter the room when the curtains are open.

“You can even put curtains along the entire length of the wall.”

Hundreds of people upvoted the post and commented that great pieces of art purchased at low cost can also improve empty spaces.

“Alternatively, if you don’t want to pay for a double curtain rod but still want to work on the drapes and curtains separately, you can hang the scissors on a bungee cord and stretch it along the rod,” one person said.

Another commenter recommended visiting thrift stores to find furniture at a bargain.

“Curtain placement is important!” they wrote.

“Anchor your stems about 6 inches at least from the edge of the window.

“Regarding thrift stores: if you live in a city, look for thrift stores in different neighborhoods.

“Even thrift store chains tend to sell what was donated to that specific store, or things that management thinks will sell better in that neighborhood.

“I know two stores that are better for finding furniture and home goods, and another, miles away, that is better for clothes.

“Things don’t have to match. They don’t have to be exactly the same color.

“If you get things that don’t match, but are in the same color family and/or style, they will ‘match’ perfectly.”

The hack comes after interior designer Kristen McGowan told The US Sun that the metal eyelets at the top of the curtains look cheap.

“The most beautiful curtains are usually personalized, pleated, have no eyelets and can be hung with rings,” she said.

“You can create the same luxurious look on a budget just by choosing affordable curtains without grommets.

“You can then install them high above the window frame to make your space appear larger, hang them using coordinating curtain rings, and be sure to steam them for a crisp, elevated look.”
