The stunning one-bedroom home is spacious and includes an open-plan kitchen, bathroom and balcony offering stunning views of the mountainous lands and tropics for which the island is best known.

The house that the young Brit built is located in Tobago, which is the smaller of the two Caribbean islands that make up the republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Alex describes his one-bedroom house as “a glorified warehouse, but it’s a house and I own every bit of it.

The £3,000 got me the plumbing, the labor, the bricks. But I did a lot of the work myself, but most of it came from meeting people who could give me good deals

Alex did all this without taking out loans and is relieved he doesn’t have to pay council tax like he would in the UK.

His new home in the Caribbean took just four months to build, and Alex boasts that not only did his house cost less to build than in the UK, but the cost of living is ridiculously cheaper.

“Every three months I pay around £50 for electricity. I pay a little more for water and wifi costs around £30-40 every quarter. I know people in the UK who pay more than £200 a month just for electricity,” he says proudly.
