The gardening lover said you should remove thatch (dead grass) and moss from your lawn as it inhabits the airflow around the grass.

All you need to do this, Michael explained, is to use a garden rake, which you can buy from the likes of Amazon for around £10.

Michael shared that before you remove the thatch and moss, you should mow the lawn.

“This will make the whole process much easier,” he said.

After mowing the lawn, Michael advised gently pulling the rake across the lawn several times as it crossed the lawn.

If you have a large lawn or aren’t a fan of manual labor, you can also use a mechanical scarifier, which can be purchased for around £70.

If you are using this tool make sure you place it at the right height and don’t scarify too deeply, as you should keep about 1cm of straw on top of the grass.

Once the moss and thatch have been removed from the soil, you can aerate the grass by poking holes in it with a garden fork.

Aeration helps water and fertilizer penetrate the soil, which promotes deeper routes and a healthier lawn.

After this, you should plant grass seed in your lawn (which you can purchase for £6.99 on Amazon) so that new, healthy grass can grow.

Quick and Easy Ways to Get Rid of Slugs and Snails in Your Garden

Be sure to keep your lawn moist, and in about two weeks, fresh grass shoots should appear.

In a second video, Michael revealed how you can fix stains on your lawn.

He explained that all you need to do is remove weeds and dead grass from the garden bed.

Then rake the soil so it’s level and put some compost on top of it as well to “add benefits back into the soil.”

Shake grass seed over the bed and water well.

Seasonal Lawn Care Schedule

Lawn care varies from season to season, with some tasks helping to stimulate root growth and development, while others help maintain soil quality.

Claire Baglin, Landscaping Category Manager for Tool Station shared lawn care tasks and tips for each season:

Spring (March April May)

  • Start mowing your lawn biweekly in March, when soil and air temperatures typically reach above 6°C.
  • Fertilize your lawn for the first time in March, using some nitrogen-rich quick-release fertilizer to help promote seedling growth.
  • Scarify your lawn for the first time in April to remove any moss or thatch that may accumulate over the winter.
  • Aerate your lawn during April by making holes in the surface of the soil. This will help loosen the soil and encourage growth.
  • Overseeding can also be done during April to patch thin or bare grass areas.

Summer (June July August)

  • From June start mowing the lawn once a week – except in periods of extreme heat and drought. Increase the cutting height to protect the grass from possible drought.
  • In June, be sure to treat your lawn for weeds – this can be done by hand for individual weeds or using an herbicide for larger groups.
  • During July and August, water your lawn at least once a week, letting it soak for 5 to 10 minutes.

Fall (September October November)

  • From September onwards, reduce the frequency of mowing your lawn to once every two weeks and make your last mow of the year in November.
  • Fertilize the lawn a second time in October, using a slow-release fertilizer rich in phosphorus and potassium to strengthen the lawn.
  • Throughout October and November, remove all fallen leaves and other debris from the surface of your lawn.

Winter (December January February)

  • From December until the end of February, leave the lawn alone. Grass typically does not grow in colder winter temperatures.
  • Winter is the perfect time of year to perform any lawn mower maintenance, including checking the blades and filters.

TikTok users rushed to the comments section of Michael’s video to share their thoughts on his tips.

One person said, “I did this yesterday.”

Another person said: “To aerate the grass, I use those spiked shoe covers.

“They go right in when the grass isn’t too dry, it burns calories and gets the job done.”

A third said: “Great!”
