It is said that the kitchen is the heart of the home, but unfortunately it is often forgotten when decorating is more about functionality than flair.

But turning your practical room into a spectacle to wow guests can be as easy as adding some color, according to decor expert Stacey Solomon.

If you’ve watched Renovation Rescue, you probably know Marianne Shillingford.

The Dulux Creative Director and co-host has been helping Stacey transform homes across the country – often just by adding a pop of color.

During the last episode, Marianne and Stacey helped a couple get their tired twin house some much needed things. TLC with a pastel kitchen diner.

Even more impressive is that the massive renovation was done on a shoestring budget – proving that it doesn’t take much to have the home of your dreams.

Speaking about the latest episode, Marianne said: “I’m thrilled to see Stacey highlighting the power of colors and color palettes in transformative spaces.

“Pastel tones have a unique ability to lift the mood and create a fresh, inviting atmosphere,” she added.

“In the kitchen, where moments of culinary creativity and family gatherings converge, the stimulating elements of pastel tones come to the fore, infusing the space with a sense of fun and joy.”

If you’re also inspired to revamp your space, Marianne has some essential tips for realizing that you get confused when it comes to interior design—especially if you want to add some pastel touches.

Evaluate the space

When it comes to any renovation, you need to have a plan – even if it’s just scribbled on the back of a piece of paper.

A key element is evaluating where color can draw attention and where it works best in your space, according to the expert.

Marianne explained: “Decide which spaces in the room or area you are painting will create the biggest impact with a pastel touch.”

“It could be the window sill to draw attention to the outside, framing in cash such as an image or architectural/cutout details (e.g. arches) to highlight the feature and add different depths.”

Think out of the box

If you’re decorating a room, it’s not always best to play it safe.

As we saw in the latest episode of Renovation Rescue, adding unexpected pops of color can make your home fun and inviting.

“Just because you’re painting a room doesn’t mean you have to paint the walls. Similar to how Stacey painted Katie & Chris’s ceiling sunset yellow with Dulux Daffodil White, if you’re also decorating your kitchen, why not paint the kitchen cupboard,” revealed Dulux’s creative director.

Don’t think too much

Sure, we can all get nervous when it comes to renovating our homes.

However, Marianne warned viewers not to think too much when choosing the tones for their homes.

“When it comes to selecting color combinations, people tend to get confused when looking at all the options on a color chart, but the trick is, if you’re redecorating, to take color inspiration from items in the room that won’t be Doing so limits your options and saves you money on having to buy new accessories to match,” she added.

But if your space is completely empty, the expert encourages homeowners to think about what inspires them and what they’re naturally drawn to—even if it’s just a bold shirt in their closet.

With these tips and tricks, you’ll have a home gig in no time.
