Georgia showed her followers on TikTok what her new pad looked like when she first changed it, and it’s safe to say she was pretty happy with it all.

The entire space looked like it had been recently renovated with new gray carpets, white walls, and even a brand new garden patio.

Understandably, Georgia was looking forward to her new home and couldn’t wait to make it her own.

Commenters on the viral clip felt the same and congratulated Georgia, one saying: “OMG my dreams, my girls dreams have come true,” she captioned the home tour video.

“That’s an amazing council house, aren’t you lucky! Good luck, it’s fantastic,” wrote a second.

“That’s beautiful, I’m so happy for you,” someone interrupted.

And another said: “Your house is amazing! I can’t believe it’s a council house.”

In a follow-up viral video, the show revealed how she made the house her home without breaking the bank.

A huge Ikea mirror in your bedroom made a huge difference to the space, but it was the cheap Primark lights that made it look so expensive.

The renter explained that she simply glued the lights to the outer edge of the mirror to give it a luxurious look, leaving users stunned.

The lights cost just £2, she revealed, so they won’t leave a lot of money in your wallet either.

Georgia has also filled her wardrobe with bargains from Vinted, not that you can say they’re second-hand.

The wardrobes, which also appear to be from Ikea, look incredibly expensive despite their affordable price.

To level out her bed, Georgia also picked up bedding from Asda, which looks so cosy.

People were quick to praise Georgia’s home style choices, with one commenting, “Your house is so beautiful.”

“Wow, I loved this,” said another.

What is a council house exchange?

Council home exchange, also known as mutual exchange, is a scheme for people living in a council or housing association property who want to exchange their home with another tenant.

People often trade up to get a bigger or smaller house or to move to a different area.

When you mutually exchange your home, you are exchanging tenancies with someone else.

Anyone with a fully insured or fixed-term social housing tenancy in their name and a transparent income account can do a mutual exchange.

You cannot change your home if:

  • has an introductory lease
  • has a probationary lease
  • are in temporary accommodation

If you want to spruce up your home on a budget like Georgia’s, there are some clever tricks you can try.

Recycle items you already own

Before we buy something new, one way to save money would be to reuse or recycle old items you already have.

Recycling or repurposing can give new life to items you already own.

It can also make them feel like a new item at a fraction of the price.

Some easy ways to recycle can be as simple as painting furniture or decor items to match a new color scheme.

A great way to repurpose items is to use items like old trash cans as plant pots.

Second-hand items

One of the best things you can do for your budget when decorating your home is to look for secondhand decor.

While it’s tempting to buy brand-new decor for your home, you can find extremely unique items in great condition when looking for secondhand furniture.

While experienced savers find the process easy, it can be intimidating to get started.

Some things to look out for in case of damage that can be repaired, such as extreme staining, lack of padding, water damage, or burn marks.

It can also be difficult to find some places to find used furniture, so here are some places to start.

Online Markets

Pre-owned or pre-owned are a great, sustainable way to shop if you’re interested in decorating on a budget while doing your bit for the planet.

You can also save time as there are several great online marketplaces where you can find your dream decor for very low prices or even for free.

You can find great furniture and home decor on Facebook Marketplace, eBay, and Etsy.
