WHEN you’re in the landscaping business, some good lawn care practices seem obvious.
But a south Georgia professional says he’s surprised so many people don’t know about a key step to keeping grass lush.

Benjamin Janeway owns the name punnily Kiss my grass landscaping just outside of Valdosta, Georgia.
In his work, he learned that there is one important task that homeowners shouldn’t miss – but often do.
“I’m surprised people don’t know that you should fertilize your lawn twice a year,” he told The US Sun.
“You fertilize your crops to make them bigger and more productive, you should do the same with your lawn.
“You can do this every six months by purchasing what is called ‘weed and feed.’”
He recommended using a broadcast spreader to spread it across your lawn.
TOOL TIME
Janeway has many other tools she relies on, but one more stands out in her mind.
“If I had to pick one, I’d say you should buy a ‘blade lock,’ he advised.
“It’s a quirky tool, but when it comes time to change the blades on your lawn mower, you’ll be thankful you have it!
“It locks the blades in place so you can remove them. It’s not that expensive, but it’s worth every penny!”

A good mow will keep your lawn level, clean and healthy, but it won’t do much if there’s a stubborn spot that refuses to grow.
For this, Janeway says to use see and straw.
But if you need things to happen a little faster, he’s got a faster solution in his back pocket.
“[If] you need immediate results…you should cut a square piece and put some grass in,” he said.
DON’T FORGET MAINTENANCE
Finally, Janeway urged homeowners not to forget the basics.
Unless it rains and the sky waters the grass for you, stick to a steady moisture schedule.
“Be sure to water your lawn twice a day, three days a week, at dawn and dusk,” he said.
