Bid goodbye to unpleasant bathroom smells, cleaning fans have found the perfect solution – and it won’t break the bank.

Even if your bathroom is incredibly clean, you can’t always avoid the smell of urine, and even scrubbing with bleach won’t remove odors.

Of course, you can try using air fresheners, but many of them only temporarily mask smells rather than removing them.

Luckily, fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have shared a trick that works for them time and time again.

They turned to Facebook to suggest a hack that “100 percent” works and isn’t as difficult as bleach.

This happened after a homeowner asked the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group for help, she wrote: “How do you get the urine smell out of linoleum in a small bathroom?”

Impressively, 63 people recommended the same trick using a bathroom cabinet staple – shaving foam.

One said: “Cheap shaving foam, not the gel that turns into foam. Spray it all over and leave it for 20 to 30 minutes, then wipe it off.”

A second gave similar advice, commenting: “Shaving foam, spray, spread and leave for a few hours before washing.2

“Cheap men’s shaving foam. I moved into a caravan and a lot of men lived there originally.

“I tried everything. Shaving foam was the only thing that worked to get rid of the smell and it didn’t come back,” another person agreed.

The best part is, if you don’t already have shaving foam stashed in your cupboards at home, you can buy it for just 99p at Tesco, although most supermarkets stock it.

If you want to go the extra mile, some cleaning fans suggest using shaving foam and white vinegar for best results.

It is recommended to use shaving foam first, leaving it to act for a few hours before applying a little white vinegar.

“Shaving foam. Then clean with litter cider vinegar and water. Do not use bleach as it reacts with urine and releases a gas“, said another.

Dirtiest items in your home that you’re probably forgetting to clean

Research shows that people are exposed to an average of 60,000 types of germs daily.

Astonish cleaning expert and product development scientist Olivia Young reveals the dirtiest items in your home and how to clean them.

Sponges or kitchen towels

Some of the items we use to clean surfaces are actually the dirtiest. From cleaning countertops to cleaning dishes, kitchen or laundry sponges are used multiple times a day. And when it does, it often becomes damp and warm, which means that if it’s not cleaned properly, it can be a prime place for bacteria to grow.

As a general rule, if you’ve been using your sponge for about two weeks, it’s time to replace it.

Shoe

Shoes are without a doubt an item in your home full of bacteria. One study suggested that a single shoe sole contains an average of 421,000 units of bacteria, but there’s no need to panic.

Most of these germs that accumulate on shoes will not come into contact with other areas of your home as long as you take them off when you enter or place them in a box in the closet.

Pet bowls and toys

In fact, pet bowls have been found to be the third most contaminated item in homes, which means they are a breeding ground for germs and bacteria that can make you and your pet feel unwell.

Wash them with warm soapy water after each use to keep bacteria at bay. For toys, if they are made of plastic, you can dip them in warm water with disinfectant or soap; Soft toys can be washed well in the washing machine on a gentle cycle.

Toothbrush holder

Your toothbrush holder probably isn’t something you consider dirty—but there are more germs in the container that holds your toothbrush than there are on your sink faucets.

Clean your toothbrush holder at least once or twice a week.
