But sometimes it seems like no matter how friendly you try to be, it just doesn’t happen.

And a woman has revealed how her “boomer” neighbor harassed her so much she just had to get revenge before leaving the property.

The term ‘boomer’ is short for ‘Baby boomers’, defined as people born from 1946 to 1964 during the baby boom of the mid-20th century.

After months of petty fights and harassment from the neighbor, the mother was delighted to finally move out.

Sharing her story on social media, she wrote: “We moved into a rented house in the neighborhood with our three children and the day after we moved in, our boomer neighbor (let’s call him Gene) knocked on our door after that my husband left. to work.

“When I answered the door, he ignored all pleasantries and introductions to gruffly inform me that the light switch in my living room closet needed to be turned off immediately and that it was my duty to ensure it was kept off.

“Obviously intrigued by this demand, I asked what the change was for.

“Gene said the change was to an outside patio light that would shine into his room at night and keep him awake… which was not acceptable.

“I thought the kids had turned it on while they were exploring their new house, so I assured him I would turn it off. Without saying anything else, he turned and went home.”

However, this was not the end of the neighbor’s demands and during the 18 months of living there she said he would go out of his way to complain about anything the family was doing.

Neighborhood nightmares: stories of disputes gone wrong

She revealed: “He would wait for my husband to leave and then come and complain and complain to me about something we had done wrong.

“It was things like, our dogs would sniff the fence loudly if he was outside, our sprinkler was spraying too loudly, our trash can was too close to his, etc. Our other neighbors adored us and our kids, so I really didn’t think we were the problem.

The mother decided to stop answering the neighbor’s door because she was tired of his complaints, but that didn’t stop him.

He soon began leaving notes for his family and even found his mother on Facebook to message her.

The top five reasons for fights between neighbors

A study by Compare the Market revealed the main reason why the British neighbor argues

  1. Broken Fences – At the top of the board were broken fences and whose responsibility it was to fix them
  2. Parking: a major driver of disputes between neighbors, with 54.1 percent of people having problems with people parking in front of their homes, parking spaces or driveways
  3. Trees – complaints about a neighbour’s tree breaking their garden path were also common, with almost half of participants finding it frustrating
  4. Trash Wars – Outdoor Trash Etiquette Continues to Spark the Furiest Debates Between Neighbors
  5. Nosy neighbors – some people have eyes and ears ready to take a peek, causing trouble for others

“My husband tried to talk to him and tell him to leave me alone, but he denied any wrongdoing,” she added.

“Arguing with him was meaningless so we made the decision to just ignore it as best we could.”

But when the couple finally found a new home, the mother and her partner decided to take revenge.

She revealed: “We were finally moving to a new place outside of the city and my husband came back to do the final tour of the house.

“When he left for the last time, he called me and let me know he had a gift for me… the last thing he did before locking the door and leaving that house for good?

“Turning on the patio light switch in the closet knowing full well the owner wouldn’t be there for final cleaning for 4 days.

“Best. Gift. Ever. I still laugh when I think about it.”

The Reddit post went viral and many people took to the comments to share their own stories of revenge against their nightmarish neighbors.

One person wrote: “When I was a kid, my neighbor used to accuse our dog of spying on her all the time! She would spray water on the fence to deter her, which didn’t work as she loved water.

“That ended when she sprayed the dog and it was my grandmother there gardening. It’s surprising how many swear words a pious Irish granny knows when she’s just soaked her freshly styled hair.

“I would have put the highest wattage bulb the device could handle and kept that suction cup on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,” said another.
