The solution is to use a product called Borax.

Although commonly used in the US, Borax is banned in the UK.

However, there are some non-toxic alternatives you can find, with one from the Natural Collection costing just £1.99.

According to experts from Delilah HouseBorax – and the economical alternative – is a “highly effective whitening agent.”

In fact, it’s so effective that you can even use it on a lower temperature in the washing machine, and it will still make your clothes “bright and white again.”

Apparently it works best when the fabric is soaked overnight.

According to professionals in Ethical beddingyou must mix 125ml of Borax or alternative with a gallon of water.

It’s best to use a deep sink or even a bathtub to leave the sheets in the solution overnight.

You can then wash the sheets in the washing machine as you normally would.

Once you purchase the Borax substitute, you can also use it for other cleaning tasks.

Three important tips for drying your clothes outdoors

The Natural Collection website explains that you can mix it with white vinegar to open drains and get rid of any clogs.

You can also use the “safe, versatile cleaner” to remove stains in the kitchen and bathroom, and it has “a little more cleaning power than baking soda.”

“I cleaned my entire bathroom with it, mixed with hot water in a sprayer,” said one satisfied customer.

“Cleans floors, walls, sinks, tiles…”

“Great cleaning product. I recommend it to family and friends,” added another.

How to do a strip wash

Strip washing is where you leave the clothes to soak in a bathtub with detergent for hours, which removes all the dirt. Some people use different cleaning agents, but the method remains the same.

  1. Fill a bathtub or bucket with boiling water
  2. Add dish soap, laundry detergent or borax – adjust amounts depending on how much water you are using
  3. Add your clothes and let them soak
  4. Stir every few hours
  5. Leave to soak for as long as possible, preferably 24 hours
  6. Remove and rinse in the washing machine
  7. Dry normally

“It lifts dirt wonderfully,” praised a third.

While another person said: “I use this product in my washing machine to soften the water as I live in an area with very hard water.

“It’s also great for cleaning the bathroom.”

“Good for heavier stains, cleaning steel plates, etc”, commented another.
