In the comments section, they provided some additional information about the deck.
“It’s great for breakfast on the weekends or for cocktails in the evening,” they wrote.
“The sun is mostly blocked by 4:30 p.m. and the arborvitae provides the necessary blocking for sufficient privacy from neighbors.”
However, some neighbors were still able to praise the project as they passed by.
“We have a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood and people are always stopping and commenting on how much they like it,” explained the owner.
“[We] some cars braked in front of him and shouted ‘I love the deck’.
“I’ve had a few people ask if I’m hired after asking who did this.”
The impressive structure was also reflected in the value of the property.
“Our house has almost doubled in value since we bought it five years ago,” the poster revealed.
They purchased their 672 square feet, which has two bedrooms and one bathroom, in 2018.
Built in 1937, the couple are only the second owners to occupy the home and describe it as “perfect” for them both.
The door is not centered on the house and the railing is sold in sections divisible by four feet.

Although they explained that they never frequented the deck during peak heat hours during the summer, the couple designed the deck for the winter.
“[We] live in Wisconsin [so the deck] is responsible for the accumulation of snow,” they wrote.
They addressed an issue with the house and deck, which some Reddit users also identified.
“The door is not centered in the house and the grille is sold in sections that are divisible by more than one meter,” explained the owner.
“The width of the deck is 28 feet, so making two 12-foot sections on each side of the stairs, while making the stairs four feet wide made installation easier.”
They explained that they “could have centered on the door, but would have incurred more costs and labor.”
The owner added that the rail system he used, from City Post, did not have corner posts available at the time of construction.
Reddit users shared their thoughts on the DIY deck in the comments section.
“Very cool. I love the simple design of this house. The deck really transformed the look. I like that door too, it makes everything stand out,” wrote one reader.
“Wow, brought it from the 70s, functional and beautiful,” said another commenter.
“Beautiful look of simplicity! It will be easy to maintain over time,” commented a third person.
