When it comes to renovating your home, costs can add up quickly and some areas don’t get the attention they deserve.

Like many couples, Joe and his wife were on a tight budget as they tried to balance a new mortgage, a wedding, and an extensive renovation.

Better known as @a_watt on TikTok, the newlyweds decided to use the app to document their house move and share some of the budget-friendly DIYs they used.

As with the rest of the house, they did most of the work themselves and spent several days in the sun tending to the garden.

As with many older homes, the garden was overgrown with bushes, ivy crawled up the sloping fences, and the space became a dumping ground for the odd potted plant.

Even the lawn needed a little TLCas it was uneven and rocky in places.

After clearing the space of plant debris and replacing the fences, the creators were more determined than ever to create an idyllic space.

Dreaming of a fire pit and a raised bed, the bride and groom decided to save money and used thick wooden sleepers to help bring their project to fruition.

On the left side of the garden, they trimmed the wood to create a box that ran almost the entire length of the garden – perfect for adding plants later.

They also added a small raised bed at the back of the garden, which would be ideal for shrubs and would add a pop of color to the fire pit.

Inexpensive Ways to Bring Vibrant Color to Your Garden All Year Round

They then got even more creative and used extra wooden sleepers to create garden benches, rather than spending money on expensive garden furniture.

Even better, each bench only required two platters and some nails do them.

Not only would they form three benches, but the sturdy seats would occupy pride place around the campfire – perfect for when loved ones come over.

While it may not be a conventional approach, the couple could have saved a small fortune with simple seating – 2.4 meter sleepers cost from £19.99 at Selco.

Alternatively, you can often find wooden pallets for free on Facebook Marketplace and other apps, for DIYs.

This DIY is absolutely necessary as some garden furniture can cost hundreds of pounds.

These smart swaps also help the couple stretch their budget to finish the garden by laying down extra grass, gravel and paving stones.

With their stunning transformation complete, influencers were able to sit back and enjoy their outdoor space.

We wondered if they would be willing to replace ours?

How to Make Your Small Garden Look Bigger

Garden design expert Fiona Jenkins from MyJobQuote.co.uk has created a guide on how to make your small garden look bigger.

Add Shelves – for additional storage and place to store more plants.

Use folding furniture – to take up less space when not in use.

Add privacy – with fences, trellises, brick walls or roofs.

Add a water feature – to make your garden feel like a natural retreat.

Go bright – when choosing plants, opt for strong colors to highlight the space.

Use Large Planters – to get more plants in less space.

Plant vertically – add plants upwards to make your garden look fuller and therefore larger.

Use blue flowers in the borderss – blue flowers and plants disappear and make the garden look bigger.

Grow tall plants – it’s better to think big when it comes to a small garden.

Keep clutter to a minimum – as it can give the illusion of less space than there actually is.
