FROM Cockapoos to Labradoodles, dog owners have gone all-in on mixed breeds.

However, a veterinary technician shared the popular pet, which is illegal in some states.

Commenting on a Reddit publishuser Isuzupup broke down the telltale sign that your dog is actually a wolf in dog clothes.

The veterinary technician explained that some dog owners are convinced that their pet is “part wolf,” when it is often 100% wild animal.

When asked to share the “most interesting breed of dog” they’ve ever handled, the Redditor responded, “I think it’s a wolf.”

They went on to explain the circumstances, clarifying that the animal was not even part canine.

“Like a real wolf, which is illegal in my state,” the vet said.

They revealed the best way to identify the wild animal from a mix of dog and wolf.

“You can always tell if a dog is a wolf by the owner’s willingness to tell you it’s a wolf,” they said.

“If they come in bragging that their dog is part wolf, I guarantee it’s like a Pitbull, Husky Shepherd mix.”

However, if the owner is more vague about their dog’s DNA, it is probably not a dog.

“If they come in with a ‘malamute’ that doesn’t look right, then you have a wolf,” the expert explained.

I’m a vet and I’m fed up with so-called ‘therapy dogs’ – their owners are full of it, the biggest red flag

They joked about the interactions they often have with malamute owners.

“It’s always ‘He’s a maaaalamute’ as they slowly blink at me trying to figure out if I’m depressed or not, and I’m despondent,” they said.

The veterinarian shared a specific example from his time in the animal care industry.

“I had a neurological case for about five years that I really loved,” the vet told his fellow social media users.

“His mother found him chained with a broken leg in South Dakota, stole him and brought him home.

Signs that your dog may become dangerous

Expert advice from Dr. Sara Ochoa, who has practiced veterinary medicine for over five years.

Ochoa told The US Sun that observing a dog’s behavior can provide clues that he may act out.

“A dog that appears completely tense, with its fur sticking up or its teeth showing, is more likely to snap,” she said.

“Looking closely without blinking can also mean problems.

“Growling is also a warning that the dog is getting angry.”

She said dogs may tuck their tails between their legs when they feel scared or threatened.

“Remaining calm and maintaining space can help things not escalate if a dog appears nervous,” she said.

“She was tough and the wolf was an absolute angel.”

The Redditor had another experience with a wolf-dog mix while working at a clinic.

“We had a wolfdog that was 75% wolf,” they shared.

“That dog needed sedation for everything and ended up being euthanized for attacking one of its owners, luckily no one died.”

The canine pro encouraged all new dog owners to do their research before adding a furry friend to their home.

Owning a wolf in any state in the United States is illegal.

“Apparently this was the first dog the owners had, [they] never even [had one] as a child before,” they said.

The experts in Windstone Editions broke legal restrictions on owning a pure wolf versus a wolf-dog hybrid.

“Owning a wolf in any state in the United States is illegal,” they explained.

“And owning a wolfdog in most states is also illegal or requires a license.”

Although wolfdogs are still allowed in certain states, professionals have shared some helpful resources for identifying the mix.

“Thin chest, slanting almond eyes, long paws, black claws, long snout, furry ears,” they said.

“Even with low content [of DNA] It’s very easy to say they’re wolfdogs.”
