One fed-up man explained that although he made an effort, he ended up giving his wife nothing for Mother’s Day.

He explained that he had the best intentions, but this unexpectedly caused a rift in their relationship.

Editor Cross2Live shared the failed gift in a viral post.

He explained that he went to great lengths to make his wife’s first Mother’s Day special.

“A few months ago, my wife mentioned this show by an artist who is decently popular. It’s not popular like Taylor Swift, but it’s still a big deal,” he said.

“We were passing a new auditorium and she was talking about the shows planned for the venue, but she really insisted on it about the artist.”

After his wife praised the singer, he decided to take her to see the show.

“This could be a really fun outing for us this summer, having a date and a night to ourselves while my parents take care of our baby,” he said.

He bought the tickets for about $100 each, but after a week, his wife started asking about the purchase.

“She was looking at our bank accounts as she does regularly and noticed a charge of over $200 on my account,” he said.

“She confronted me demanding to know what I was spending so much money on.”

Trying to keep his surprise a secret, he gave a purposefully vague answer.

“I tell her it’s a surprise for Mother’s Day and then I show her what it is. That doesn’t satisfy her,” he said.

His wife, he explained, was determined to get to the bottom of the matter.

“She investigates and finds out the charge was from TicketMaster and continues to berate me daily about what the charge was,” he said.

Two weeks of pressure later, he gave up trying to keep the gift a secret.

So here we are. On Mother’s Day and I didn’t do anything. No card. No flowers. No surprises of any kind.

“I told her I got tickets to the show and that I had already arranged childcare for the evening, as well as a pet sitter,” he said.

Her reaction was far from what he expected.

“Expecting her to be happy, I was heartbroken when she started telling me how this was a total waste of money and how she enjoyed this artist’s music on the radio but imagined her in concert being extremely boring and how she was never interested in going,” he said.

He admitted that he didn’t end up buying her anything after the gift fiasco.

“So here we are. It’s Mother’s Day and I’ve done nothing. No cards. No flowers. No surprises of any kind,” he said.

“I’m hurt and I feel burned. I expected so much better today. I really wanted to show her that I was listening and appreciating all the amazing things she does as a wife and mother. But I guess now I’m just a failure and an idiot.”

Although he remained overwhelmed by the situation, people told him to keep his chin up.

A viewer who has been married for over 30 years gave his opinion.

“Your wife’s reaction is completely inappropriate and you need to talk about it or seek counseling,” they said.

They also advised the Redditor to open a separate bank account that his wife would not have access to to avoid future arguments.

“I fully support combining finances and I think keeping finances separate contributes to a very undesirable dynamic between you and me in marriage,” they explained.

“But even with combined finances, each spouse must have a discretionary account where an agreed amount from each paycheck must be deposited.

“This will give you the freedom and independence to make some purchasing decisions on your own, without having to justify them.”
