Redditor Usda-5b shared his easy hack for saving seeds.

“Many people germinate seeds in plastic bags lined with paper towels. It’s very common with seeds like ultra-hot peppers, which can be a little finicky to germinate,” they said.

“This makes it easier to control heat, humidity and quickly respond to mold or other problems,” they continued.

Still, they had their own desired method.

“Using a covered cup – or Cool Whip container – lined with paper towel and coffee filter has been most convenient for me,” they said.

“The roots don’t penetrate coffee filters like they do with paper towels, so it minimizes the possibility of damaged roots.”

It seemed like they had created a valuable and accessible technique.

Target sells an 8-ounce container of Cool Whip for $2.19.

They also explained how they use paper towels underneath to trap moisture.

These picky plants can’t fool you.

My gardening technique can save a lot of time removing weeds – adding sweet mulch also reduces the amount of water needed

As soon as they notice a root “popping out”, they plant them in a small pot.

“Especially in the case of peppers, the root digs in, the stem emerges upward, and then the seed leaves are pulled out of the seed case by the stem,” they said.

“If they are not deep enough, the seed box can get stuck and kill the seedling,” they continued.

Your growing tip worked even for “questionable” seeds.

“Instead of dedicating a bunch of pots for seed germination space, I can pick and pot healthy seeds as they sprout,” they said.

“The bad seeds often get moldy and I remove them before they can affect the good seed.”

Others were eager to try the treat for themselves.

“Thanks for the tips, especially with the coffee filter,” wrote one Redditor.

“I might have to try that for next year’s peppers – I just planted twice as many as I wanted and culled the weakest ones this year,” they added.

“Next year I plan to buy a heated propagator mat and some lighting to get things started sooner.”
