Editor Steel_city835 detailed her deep cleaning method in a post on the social media platform.

“Removing the clothing changed my life,” they said.

They explained how they used the technique on clothing, as well as sheets and towels.

“This completely saved my bath towels and they look like new,” they said.

They included a photo of their clothes soaking in dirty water in a bathtub during the process.

“The photo shows two king sheets being stripped with laundry detergent, borax and washing soda. It’s been going on for four hours. So gross, but so satisfying.

“I hope this restores my almost new white,” they wrote.

WHAT IS CLOTHING UNLOADING?

Garment stripping is a cleaning method that involves soaking fabrics in a chemical solution of borax, powdered detergent and washing soda to break down dirt and build-up on clothes, according to Maytaga brand of household appliances.

Maytag explained that the process “can also release natural dyes and oils from the fabric.”

“Always check your item’s care label before using this method to make sure it can handle a hot water soak,” advised Maytag.

My all-knowing aunt gave me the best laundry tip and I’ll never go back – it’s free and great for buying detergent in bulk

The Reddit user explained that the recipe calls for a quarter cup of borax, a quarter cup of washing soda, and a cup of laundry detergent, but they only used a half cup of dish soap.

They recommended using “extremely hot water” and soaking clothes, sheets and towels for four to six hours.

The original poster said they put the load directly into the washing machine without adding detergent.

After a full wash cycle, clothing removal is complete.

What is laundry removal?

Laundry stripping is a deep cleaning method used to break down dirt and other buildup on clothes and linens, according to the appliance brand. Maytag.

It involves soaking the fabrics in a bathtub filled with hot water and a quarter cup of borax, a quarter cup of washing soda, and a cup of powdered detergent.

The appliance brand advised leaving the clothes in the solution overnight and then rinsing them in the washing machine the next day.

Maytag noted that the process can “release natural dyes and oils” and should not be used on dark fabrics, workout clothes, wool or cold water clothing.

“Always check your item’s care label before using this method to make sure it can handle a hot water soak,” the company advised.

BETTER LEAVE IT INVISIBLE

Many Redditors weighed in on the laundry technique.

“I’ve always done this with lots of hot water and vinegar,” wrote one.

“It is a step that accompanies the care of cloth diapers. It is also intended to remove detergent and mineral buildup.”

Another noted that the post was a blast from the past, saying it triggered a “1970s memory.”

“My mother used to soak very dirty clothes in a bucket of Borax or Biz before washing,” they explained.

“She would throw everything in the washing machine and leave.”
