Kelly Hoppen, interior designer, author, entrepreneur and product designer, who was also a ‘Dragon’ on BBC Two’s Dragons’ Den, has taken to social media to share the do’s and don’ts when it comes to home design. interiors.

Posting online, the curly-haired South African star explained why the front door is key, as well as the mistake many people make in small bathrooms.

In addition, she also revealed the mistake of the carpet that cannot stand, as well as the fireplace trend that will make your home look like an altar.

FRONT DOOR

According to Kelly, it is essential that you pay attention to the front door.

She explained: “Very important, make it an absolute star piece, so whatever color you choose is really important.

“Don’t fill it with plants that are too big or don’t put plants that are too small. Everything has to be balanced and in perspective.”

WALLPAPER

Additionally, Kelly shared her wallpaper advice, as she advised: “Only hang it on one wall – make it a feature.

“Do not hang from ceilings, walls or baseboards.”

MARBLE

When it comes to marble, Kelly added: “If you are doing marble on the wall in the kitchen, always mark it so it looks exactly the same.

“No – don’t score.”

RUGS

When it comes to carpet, Kelly shared her tip for choosing the right color.

She explained: “Always make sure you choose the right color, it always looks darker on a swatch so buy a larger piece.

“Don’t use a patterned rug in the hallway or on the stairs as it can make you dizzy.”

FIREPLACE

If you have a fireplace at home, you need to pay attention, as Kelly shared: “Fireplaces need to have something above them, so use a texture or a color, make it stand out.

“Don’t turn this into an altar. Do not have candlesticks on either side and a vase in the middle. You will not pray.”

The Most Popular Colors of 2024 for Interior Design

Homebase has revealed the official trend colors for this year.

To predict the top shades of 2024, Homebase sales data analyzed 5 colors that have grown in popularity among customers.

Copper, pink and black are predicted to be the hottest colors on Brit walls this year, while bathrooms are seeing a surprising rise in terracotta color schemes.

The five most popular colors for 2024 are:

  1. Copper (+57%)
  2. Pink (+38%)
  3. Black (+34%)
  4. Green (+29%)
  5. Orange (+27%)

Copper has replaced rose gold, while blush is the new magnolia, and the British are also daring by applying black paint to all the walls.

Green is always a popular color, but the shade ‘Fresh Herb’ – a versatile green in light gray tones – is making its way into hundreds of customers’ baskets.

Meanwhile, terracotta is taking over with ‘Frosted Papaya’, a peachy orange shade dominating bathrooms.

SMALL BATHROOMS

And if you want to make your small bathroom look bigger, Kelly recommended: “Paint everything one color, including the baseboards, ceiling and door.

“Don’t choose the baseboards, door and ceiling in white because you will frame them and it will look much smaller and it will look like you are in a cage.”

CURTAINS

Finally, Kelly shared her curtain advice, concluding: “Always follow where the window ends. If it’s a tall window, make sure the curtains end where the window ends.

“If it’s a long window, put the curtains down to the floor.

“Don’t block all the light. If you have a post, make sure it’s much wider than the window itself so you can draw the curtains, because we all want natural light.”
