ALL wedding guests should know that there is one rule when it comes to dressing for the big day: don’t outshine the bride by wearing white.

However, one bride-to-be was shocked when her own mother wanted to wear an off-white dress to her wedding.

Taking to Reddit the shocked bride shared a series of dresses her mother wanted to choose for her role as mother of the bride.

She asked netizens: “Why is my mother sending these dresses as potential mothers of the bride?

“Are these colors too light or is it just me?”

Among the collection were floor-length lace dresses in very light tones, and some dresses also had beautiful floral embellishments.

The bride said, “Some of these are better than others, I don’t mind the ones that are obviously gold.”

The woman said she tried to gently wean her mother away from the dresses, but so far it hasn’t worked.

She explained: “I keep making comments like ‘that one is a little too light’ or ‘it looks like it’s going to shoot white’.

“Part of me doesn’t really care because it will be obvious who the bride is on my wedding day, but would you be upset about those dresses?”

Many people were quick to comment their opinions on the dresses.

One person wrote: “I would say 100000000000% to my mother absolutely not. Under no circumstances.”

A second commented: “This was literally one of the most frustrating aspects of wedding planning for me because my mum did the same thing – literally sent me a dress in a shade called ‘antique white’.

“They can’t do this nonsense about being off-white, champagne, ivory… IT’S WHITE. “

However, some people said the dresses would be appropriate for the mother to wear.

One person wrote: “Many more mature styles only come in 3-4 colors and beige/gray/champagne is one of them.”

Another added: “Honestly this looks good to me. If your relationship with your mother is fine, I wouldn’t try to take it maliciously.”

Wedding Planner Shares Her Take on Guests Wearing White

A WEDDING planner was fed up when he noticed four women turning up to a ceremony wearing dresses in shades of white.

Her irritation was so great that she couldn’t bite her tongue.

Wedding planner Cari Izaguirre said there’s no reason for a guest to show up wearing the same color as the bride.

Talking about etiquette, she said in one clip: “You don’t wear white to a wedding. Or a light ivory. You just don’t do that.

Outside a reception she hosted, she said there were four people with boundary-pushing looks.
