A HOMEOWNER eliminated grass, replacing traditional grass with other plants.
They said their yard is now full of perennial plants and flowers.
Editor Rundiggity shared photos of their unconventional digs on the social media platform.
They wanted to show off their “grass-free yard.”
The yard is full of attractive greenery, from flowers to bushes, and not a patch of grass in sight.
Located in the Midwest, the Redditor gave more information about their outdoor space.
“My yard is full of perennials and water catchments,” they said.
“I dug the hell strip to four feet deep and filled it with gravel.
“It absorbs rainwater from the street.”
WHERE DID THE LAWN GO?
The Redditor explained how they completely renovated their space after removing the lawn.
“I added six meters of mushroom compost and planted it in it,” they said.
“I then applied a lot of mulch. I still compost and make occasional amendments, but so far I haven’t seen any serious deficiencies.”
They decided to replace the lawn with more local plants.
“My regional natives would be a lot of grassland-type plants,” they said.
“I have a few of them here. Coneflower, for example, and big bluestem.”
They also grew clover, false verbena, creeping thyme and primrose.
NOT A LAWN
Many Redditors gave their opinion on the lawnless backyard in the comments section.
“Absolutely stunning,” wrote one. “Good job.”
“Is that creeping thyme between the bricks in the fourth photo?” another added.
“I’m sure it smells good when you cross that path.”
“Your front yard is so magical,” added another. “And there’s a lot going on beyond the plants, too.”
“Beautiful,” commented a third. “I’m so inspired.”
