WANT your home to feel luxurious without the high price tag? A savvy mom shared 10 budgeting tips to help you do just that.

Dawn, who goes by The Minimal Mom online, recently took to YouTube to explain how someone can make their space look expensive without breaking the bank.

A few easy styling tips are key, and you don’t even need to buy anything new to try them.

Hit the scale

According to Dawn, she would often buy decor that was too small for the space it was in — a big giveaway that it’s cheap.

So what should you do to ensure your decor is the right size?

Opt for a large, striking piece if in doubt, according to the home professional, this will almost always look better than an arrangement of small things, such as candles, vases and plants.

Be careful with gallery walls

Gallery walls should be intentional, explained Dawn

Although the gallery may look very elegant, if you don’t plan it properly, it almost certainly won’t make it.

Making your art and photos work together to look cohesive isn’t always easy, so start by seeing what you have and add items to complete the look.

“One way to make a gallery wall look cohesive is to make all the frames match,” Dawn added.

Follow the 60-30-10 rule

This rule is all about creating color balance in your home.

Therefore, you should have three colors in each room – 60% for the main color, then 30% for another and 10% for details.

This formula allows the colors to work together without looking disjointed, Dawn explained.

Five Things That Make Your Home Look Cheap

Create contrast

The key to purchasing new items for your home is knowing whether you want them to be seen or if they should blend into the background.

If your goal is to create contrast, you can be bolder in your design choices, but stick to the main color if you want things to look simpler.

Get the right curtains

Dawn explained that most people choose the wrong curtains for their homes, and there are actually two different types you should be aware of.

Some curtains are purely decorative and are not designed to be closed; this style should cover the walls, not the windows.

Other styles are thicker and work to block light and create privacy.

Style Open Shelves Right

Creating perfectly styled open shelves is harder than most people think, Dawn said.

But the secret is to “zigzag with the accent color” according to the pro.

There should be some rhyme and reason to the way you style your shelves, so having an accent color on each shelf will make them look much more expensive and less cluttered.

Don’t forget to organize

“Organizing is a decorating tactic,” Dawn said.

It may not seem like you’re doing much by getting rid of your old junk, but as far as the pro goes, it’s one of the best things you can do if you want your home to look more luxurious.

Even if you don’t love a minimalist style, less can still be more in many ways.

Use white

White will instantly brighten up your home, unlike magnolia and similar shades, which can look dull and lifeless.

Dawn said painting her house white made a big difference and it wasn’t as difficult to keep it clean as she thought.

Of course, not everything has to be white and you can still bring in other colors, but the fact that your main color is white doesn’t have to be boring.
