It’s a huge decision and one you’ll spend a lot of time thinking about.

But once the child is born and the name is used, everyone will get used to it.

Unless you’re a mom on Reddit who got worried because her daughter doesn’t like her name.

The worried dad took to the online forum to ask other parents for advice.

In a post called “My daughter doesn’t like her name”, the American, who goes by the username Escalus90, said her four-year-old son hates her name and refuses to accept it.

The woman explained: “I read the name in a novel and loved it from a young age.

“So when I had a daughter, I named her Philomena.

“We call her ‘Pippa’ and she insists her name is ‘Pippa’. She is not Philomena.

“Did I make a mistake by calling you Philomena?” She asked.

The post continued: “I still love the name. I don’t think it’s strange. It is written correctly and is not nonsense.”

The woman also had a two-year-old son, whom she named Malcolm, but his nickname was ‘Macko’.

I feel so much hate about putting makeup on my two year old daughter but she begs me to do it – she loves contouring and lipstick

The mother-of-two admitted she had “a lot of difficulty” naming her children and “didn’t want them [to be] super common.”

“I didn’t want them to be weird either,” she commented. “Do you think Philomena is strange?”

The post attracted a huge response from Reddit users, with a variety of differing opinions on the situation.

One person said: “At least they’re real names for once so that’s not so bad.”

Philomena is a feminine title of Greek origin and means “lover of strength, beloved” and “courageous lover”.

The collision

Another commented: “Both Philomena and Malcom are super old-fashioned. I’ve never heard Pippa for Philomena, but I think they’re all good names.

A third said: “A friend called her daughter that (family name) and she mostly uses nicknames.

But someone else added: “That’s fine with me, it’s a bit complex and unique, but Pippa is so much better.”

Another commented: “Nothing wrong with the name.

“I think the boy hates it the same way I hated my old name throughout my childhood and adolescence, Agatha, so much that I never used it.”

Another Reddit user stated: “She’s four years old and a horrible name to learn to spell.

“Just call her by the nickname she likes and see what happens.”
