HOW TO DO THIS
The Redditor advised how to do interior design and decorating right.
“The best way to apply color in interior spaces is to aim for a 70, 20, 10 palette,” they said.
“70 is your dominant color, usually neutral, in your case I would say white, warm whites and creamy neutrals.
“20 is your primary color, in your case it will probably be green thanks to the sofa.
“So 10 is your accent color, so of the two palettes you have, I would choose one to highlight the green.
“So in your case, probably orange or blue.”
They said that while they understand that simply hanging a few portraits can help, there are better ways to design a space.
“That doesn’t mean you can’t bring out these colors through your art,” they added.
“Art can and should complement your color palette and add more colors to the environment.
“But with furniture, walls and fabrics, I would stick to 70-20-10.”
WHERE IS FROM?
The Redditor met with other users who asked how they discovered the concept.
“I’m also moving soon to a new apartment and have been challenged to think about planning a color scheme,” wrote one.
“I love this number rule, where did you learn about it? Are there resources you recommend to learn more?”
“I just learned it in art/graphic design class at school,” Solariati responded.
“I’ve always had difficulties with color theory and combinations, so this is a rule that has stuck with me.
“I don’t have any particularly good resources to offer you, but if you search ‘interior design 70-20-10’ you’ll definitely find a lot about it.”
What is the 70-20-10 color rule?
According to Hestya Interior DesignThe 70-20-10 rule is a way to create a more welcoming space using color theory.
70% is the main color, 20% is the secondary color and 10% is the accent color.
The method aims to create a more “cohesive” and comfortable space, without an authoritarian design.
