Mya explained that some of her tips are a little controversial, but they’re essential if you want to flog your unwanted items.

Not only did Mya emphasize that listing multiple items at once is key, but she also explained that her time hack shouldn’t be forgotten.

Sharing her advice on social media, Mya said: “I’ve been bombarded with tips, tricks and how to sell on Vinted.

“I just want to say that I am in no way an expert on Vinted.

“I sold over 35 items in a month and made over £300 pounds in a month which is really good so I thought I would share this with people who want to do the same.”

HIGHLIGHT YOUR CLOSET

Mya explained that paying to feature your wardrobe on Vinted can ensure more people visit your profile, but it doesn’t always translate into an increase in sales.

She revealed: “So this is a controversial topic, I’ve seen some people recommend paying to feature your wardrobe on Vinted.

“I did it myself and I definitely got more profile views, more favorites, but I wouldn’t necessarily say sales.

“I think I got two or three and I definitely got more without them, 110%, so don’t waste your money if you don’t want to.”

SEND THIS MESSAGE

Mya reported that messaging people on Vinted is a way to change your unwanted items, as she added: “Another controversy is messaging people if they like items.

“If I see someone favorite a few things, I’ll message them and say ‘look, I’ll make you a deal, I can send you the next day.

“If I see someone favorite something, I’ll still message them and say ‘I can ship tomorrow’ or ‘offer me a price’ because I’ll probably take it.

“And to be honest, people need to have that mentality. If you are listing on Vinted, you may not get what you want and you need to accept that.

“I’ll probably take whatever price someone offers me, because I want it to go away.”

POST EVERYTHING

According to Mya, if you want to make space in your closet, you’ll need to carry multiple items at once.

She recommended: “Another thing would be to post similar items at the same time.

“If I have my sister’s old clothes, I’ll post them all at once, because then, if someone sees one of them, they’ll see a bunch of children’s clothes.”

PACKAGE OFFERS

Mya explained that if you want to make money with Vinted, activating your packages is a good place to start.

The Vinted genius added: “If you activate the packs, [shoppers are] I will be more inclined to purchase the items, and you can literally do that in the pack settings, definitely something I would recommend.”

RIGHT TIME

The experienced seller also emphasized that timing is key, as she explained: “Another thing related to all of this is posting at certain times.

“I definitely think posting between 3pm and 5pm is always good because that’s when people are coming home from work.

“And another time would be on weekends, which is also a very good time.”

FIT IT

When it comes to the photos you upload to Vinted, Mya highlighted, “Have really detailed photos. I’m taking photos of any little tags included, honestly of everything – it’s painting a clearer picture for the buyer and it’s really helpful.”

What photos should you upload

Clear, high-quality images will help your items stand out on Vinted among the vast array of items available on the platform.

Here are the five essential photos that The Sun’s Rose O’Sullivan recommends:

  • Image One: A clear photo of the front of the dress, workout set, pants, etc.
  • Photo two: The back of the outfit
  • Photo three: Photograph sleeve or pant length
  • Figure four: close-up of the stitching or if there is any flaw in the item, please include enlarged photos as well
  • Photo five: If they are pants, take photos of the lining, zippers or buckles

COMMUNICATION IS KEY

Not only are your photos important, but so is your communication, as Mya added: “Communicate with buyers when you have them – get that five-star review because five-star reviews really help.

“If I see two people listing items, one that is cheaper and has five stars analysis and someone with ten five-star reviews, I’ll probably buy from them even if it’s more expensive because I know they’re more reliable.

JOIN SOCIAL MEDIA

Another way to promote your Vinted items more, according to Mya, is to share them on your social media platforms.

The Vinted lover expressed, “Post it on TikTok. Use hashtags. This really helps.

“I posted about [an item and I had] five or six sales, it works.”

RAISE THE PRICE

If that wasn’t enough, Mya explained that increasing the price of your items can also help you make money, as she concluded: “Finally, another good way for people to think they are getting a good deal would be for you to list it for a few pounds more of what you really want.

“So if you want £5, list it at £6 or £7 and then people might offer you £5 and think they’re getting a deal.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @myturner1 It clearly left many speechless as it quickly racked up 42,200 views in just four days.

Do you need to pay taxes on items sold on Vinted?

QUICK tax facts from the Vinted team…

  • The only time an item may be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and makes a profit (sold for more than you paid for it). You can still use your £3,000 capital gains tax-free allowance to offset it.
  • Generally, only commercial sellers who trade for profit (buy goods with the aim of selling them for more than they paid for them) may have to pay tax. Business sellers trading for profit can use a £1,000 tax break, which has been in place since 2017.

NEW RULES TO OBSERVE

But if you want to flog your old items on Vinted, you’ll need to consider the new rules that have recently come into play.

If people sell personal items for less than they paid new (which is often the case with second-hand sales), there is no tax impact.

However, since January 1, digital platforms including eBay, Airbnb, Etsy, Amazon and Vinted must share seller information with HMRC as part of a crackdown.

You’re unlikely to be affected if you only sell a few second-hand items online each year – generally only commercial sellers who trade for profit may need to pay tax.

A £1,000 tax exemption has been in place since 2017 for commercial sellers trading for profit – the only time an individual personal item may be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is a profit from the sale.

However, businesses now have to pass your details to HMRC if you sell 30 or more items a year or earn more than £1,700.

It is part of a broader tax crackdown to help ensure that those who increase their income through side hustles pay what they owe.

Although your details will not be shared with HMRC if you earn between £1,000 and £1,700, you will still need to pay tax as normal.
