Eager to clap back at the keyboard warriors, Abbie, who recently revealed she’s taking her kids out of school for another six weeks, took to social media to share the reality of being married to a footballer.

Mum-of-two Abbie responded to a comment from a hater who said: ‘Imagine being a professional footballer and still shopping in Primark.’

Posting on social media, Abbie shared a clip with the caption ‘I can’t win’ and said: “The stereotypes around footballers are absolutely crazy and the expectations of them range from one end of the scale to the other.”

Abbie said she is even criticized for where she buys her clothes, adding: “I’m either a gold digger if we shop at Flannels, but I’m a shame if I shop at Primark.”

Abbie opened up about the comments people made to her, as she continued: “I was told when his money stops I will leave him.

“They also told me ‘who is he, a plumber earns more than him’. So what it is?

“The wage guessing and criticizing family about where they shop really has to stop because it’s literally just a boy playing football.”

Abbie then told Fabulous: “I think there is a huge stereotype around footballers and the expectations are ridiculous.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @AbbieguyIt clearly left many speechless as it quickly racked up 221,800 views.

Social media users were quick to share their thoughts in the comments, as many rushed to support Abbie.

How much do League 2 players earn?

Specific figures for the whole of League Two are not publicly available.

However, Sport Salary reported the weekly and annual salaries of League Two’s 100 highest earners in 2022-23.

Of the 100 highest-paid players in English football’s fourth tier, just 19 earned more than £200,000 a year.

Of the top 100, there was an average annual salary of £174,200, which is raised considerably by the top few earners.

The average salary for this group is £140,400, earned by Rhys Oates and Richie Smallwood.

Inevitably, League One wages will be above those seen in League Two.

The average League Two salary will vary significantly from year to year depending on the players and clubs in the division.

A third commented: “People will always have something to say.”

While another person expressed: “People are jealous he’s living the life and they’re not.”

At the same time, another user chimed in: “Just ignore them.”
