A GARDENING genius has revealed a £12 hack that will instantly add sparkle to your outdoor space.

As Brits officially enter the summer season, most people with gardens are looking to spend a little more time outdoors to take advantage of the warmer temperatures.

And creating an outdoor space that is comfortable to relax in and pleasant to look at will be a top priority for Brits right now.

But hiring a gardener or trying to renovate it yourself can be costly — which may be impossible for some due to the cost of living crisis.

However, a gardening fan, who wrote to sgs-engineering, has revealed a tip that will save you from having to shell out for new furniture or build a new patio to change the look of your garden.

They explained that those who have a garden just need to be “creative” when modernizing their outdoor spaces this summer.

First, they began by saying that the garden needs to be assessed first, to determine which areas “need the most improvement.”

Take note if there are stubborn weeds that have taken over or if perhaps the lawn needs mowing – especially if it has been abandoned during the winter months.

The gardening genius explains that it’s best to first make a list of jobs and order them by priority.

They said this will help avoid overspending on jobs that are not “necessarily important or won’t have much impact.”

Tips and tricks for keeping your garden pest-free

It’s also a step in determining your budget.

One tip in particular is to focus on the compost that will allow your plants to have all the nutrients they need – and this can be done at home.

Compost helps your plants and it is also a “great way to deal with food waste” in the household.

They said: “To create your own compost, some of the best materials you can easily find in your kitchen include fruit scraps, coffee grounds, dried leaves and vegetable scraps.

“Whenever you start making your own compost, remember not to add leftover meat, dairy, cheese or pet waste as these can not only create unpleasant odors but also harbor harmful diseases.”

This trick is super cheap, and all gardening fans need to do is invest in a small compost bin which can cost as little as £2.80 in Dunelm stores.

Gardening Tips and Tricks

Deterring pests like slugs will also be a priority for those sprucing up their gardens this year.

Another gardening professional has revealed an easy trick – which costs a few pennies.

Laura Harnett, gardening professional at eco-cleaning brand Seep, says using an old copper scouring pad will do the trick.

The chemical-free trick will help deter slugs as they “hate metal as it gives them a small, harmless shock when they come into contact with it.”

She says: “Instead of buying expensive copper tape for your pots and plants, simply unravel the copper scouring pad when it is no longer useful and it will have the same effect.”
