A GARDENING expert has shared her easy method of keeping seeds good for use past their sell-by date and saving money.
They said they ignore the “packaged” dates and still see success years later in their garden.
Reddit User BoozeIsTherapyRight gave an inexpensive gardening trick that will increase the longevity of your seeds and save you money in the long run.
They went into detail about the cost-saving trick in a publish on the social media platform.
One of the first things they shared was that “tomato and pepper seeds basically never go bad.”

The Redditor said to “store them well.”
In their case, the seeds are vacuum packed in the basement so that air or environmental conditions cannot penetrate.
Another storage trick is to put them in the fridge, which they did.
They said it will last for years and years if you follow these methods.
They know what they’re talking about and have the growth to prove it.
They said that the following winter they germinated 20-year-old seeds.
Germination is the process of developing seeds into new plants.
“My germination rate was over 80%,” they explained.
They explained that many seeds remain years past their “packaging” date, but others do not.
Some of them include sweet corn and salsa, according to the Reddit user.
“However, tomatoes appear to be incredibly long-lived,” they added.
While seed storage can itself reduce costs, the original poster admitted that general seed starting will save you money if you plant a lot.
They also offered planting tricks to make the most of your buds.
First, start your seeds in small cell packets.
Then plant in Solo cups with holes in the bottom.
They explained how this is another way to save some money.
“The cell packs are reusable if you’re kind, and so are the Solo cups,” they said.
They called it a “bonus” because you can write the name of the plant grown on the cup.
