MANY people know that there is one rule when it comes to weddings: don’t upstage the bride.

However, one mother of the bride made a big impression when she showed up to her daughter’s wedding in a see-through dress with just a bikini underneath.

The mother attended the wedding of the two women in a transparent crystal mesh dress and a blue bikini.

And although the outfit caused a stir, it was replacing another option that upset the bride.

The mother reportedly planned to wear a white dress, but her daughter begged her not to upstage her future wife.

However, many people were still shocked by the see-through outfit, which one said resembled a “cheap polyester shirt.”

One person said: “It’s so inappropriate to wear underwear to a wedding.”

Another added: “I wouldn’t have allowed her anywhere near my photographer. This is crazy.”

A third replied: “The outfit is not appropriate for a wedding.”

However, some people thought the mother was amazing.

One person added: “If you have it, flaunt it.”

And someone wrote: “Oh this is so hot and she’s 57?”

Some said they would be furious if they were the bride due to the revealing nature of their mother’s outfit.

One commented: “I would be furious if I was the bride.”

Another wrote: “Why would you wear a bikini to a wedding? You’re not at the beach and you’re the mother of the groom.”

The daughter, however, didn’t seem too disturbed by her mother’s outfit and thanked her online.

Everyone seemed excited to mark the special day and smiled in the photos.

Dos and Don’ts of Wedding Dress Codes

By Josie Griffiths, Fabulous deputy editor and bride-to-be.

I will never forget the wedding I went to in October 2022, where a guest wore a white dress.

It was ill-fitting, knee-length, and looked nothing like a real wedding dress, but that didn’t stop everyone from judging her.

The rules about wedding guest attire — which are annoyingly stricter for women than men — are meant to be about “not outshining the bride,” which is actually pretty hard to do on someone else’s wedding day.

But if you get it wrong as a guest, you’ll end up looking a little silly and in front of a bunch of people who don’t know you personally.

It’s just not the occasion for your new white dress, no matter how much online stores love to throw it in the ‘wedding guest’ section.

I would avoid anything too tight/short and ditch the super formal dresses unless the dress code requires them – you don’t want to wear a long sequin dress to a smart casual event.

Personally I don’t like black dresses either, it’s not a funeral.

Otherwise you will be quite safe. Technically, wearing red means you’re in love with your fiancé, but that’s the kind of rule most people would scoff at these days.

I always check the bridesmaids’ color, just to be safe, after the Spanish wedding, where I saw them walk down the aisle in exactly the same dress I had in my Asos shopping basket weeks before.

When in doubt, it’s safest to just check with the bride… but if you’re already doubting your dress, this might be the answer you need.

According to Brides.comTraditionally, the mother of the bride’s dress should match (but not match) the color of the wedding party’s attire.

For example, if the bridal party is wearing black cocktail dresses, like the mother, something in silver or gray would work perfectly.

Or, if your bridesmaids are wearing cobalt blue, a navy blue dress would be perfect.

While there is no specific color or style that the mother of the bride must wear, unless you have received the couple’s approval, it is best to avoid shades of white, ivory, or champagne so as not to distract from the bride. .
