A WOMAN who pays £333/month to live in a static caravan has revealed the key rules she needs to follow to make it legal.
The mother, known only as @thecaravanmumturned to TikTok to talk about this “unconventional” way of life, after getting “fed up with people telling” her “it’s not possible.”
As explained in her videoliving in a static caravan on a holiday site was non-residential, meaning there was no post box at the front door ”where everything is registered”.
“Actually, nothing is registered at this place – because it is a vacation spot,” noted the father who had lived this way for about a year at the time of filming.
To be able to live this lifestyle, Dad said you needed a separate registered address, which must be a property you own, whether purchased, mortgaged or rented.
”Or if it’s not yours, it needs to be a family member you can register with or a friend you can register with as well.”
Another important thing to remember, she added, is that vacation spots are generally not open year-round, and her website is open for 10.5 months.
When the site ends up closing for a period of time, the savvy mom said it doesn’t matter if you go back to your registered address – as long as you’re off the site, they don’t care.
This means you can come back, travel – or “do whatever you want” like a “nomad”.
The annual rent, she revealed in the comments, comes to £3,500 for a 10.5 month stay, which works out to around £333 per month.
While you are on the site – unless it is written in the site rules, which may be the case in some places – ”there is no longevity in how long you can stay here”.
This, she explained, happens because “there is no legal definition of the duration of vacations”.
In the clip, the woman also shared some information about regulations around leaving the premises for work and school.
If you live on a site that is in the same area where you are registered, ”then there is no problem”.
The vacation spot, which is approximately 100 miles away from your registered area, also has access to the family’s accounts to ensure they to do have a registered residential address.
”It is completely possible for you to live your lifestyle in such a way that you spend most of your time in your static caravan.
“But to be able to do that, you will also need to work unconventionally – or have a lot of savings or money that will allow you to live this life without having to work.”
Tiny House FAQs

The tiny house movement started in the US before gaining popularity in the UK.
What is a tiny house?
Tiny homes are small, fully equipped spaces designed to lead a more sustainable, off-grid lifestyle. Although they vary in size and shape, tiny houses tend to be between 15 and 50 square meters in capacity, are made from sustainable materials, and are easier – and cheaper – to maintain than traditional brick homes.
Are tiny houses legal in UK?
As long as the tiny house does not exceed 19.8m x 6.7m in size, it is defined as a caravan in UK law. Therefore, tiny homes are classified as legal additional living space.
Can you get a mortgage for a tiny house?
The small size and relatively low cost of tiny homes means they are generally not considered eligible for a mortgage. However, there are many options for taking out a loan to finance your dreams of a perfect mobile home.
Asked if the couple worked, the mother said that the pair had a business and at the same time educated their children at home.
The video clearly inspired many, as hundreds of people took to the comments to share their thoughts.
One person said: ”This is how we have been living for the last 3 years. We have to stay out of the park two weeks a year.
Another chimed in: “My parents lived in a static caravan in Tickhill, Doncaster. they lived there for at least 20 years.”
“I would do this no problem,” wrote another person.
