THEY may look sweet and totally innocent – but one mum was left red in the face after finding out what those trendy wicker hearts really represent.
This cult-favorite home accessory has become popular, and we often see them hanging in kitchens, somewhere in the living room—or outside the home.
Wicker hearts skyrocketed in popularity in the late 2010s and have become a must-have for any home interiors influencer.
In recent years there has been a resurgence in nature-inspired decor, which shoppers can find at Dunelm or rival B&Q.
But have you ever wondered if there is a meaning behind them?
Well, one woman, whose neighbors seem obsessed with wicker hearts, recently did so — and she’s mortified.
Taking to Mumsnet, the woman explained that she decided to take a short walk around the neighborhood to sort out some matters and saw the decorations of some houses.
Utterly perplexed, the anonymous woman wondered if this, perhaps, was a new craze, comparing them to “sticks in pots” and “pebble shit.”
“Throughout my three-mile walk, I swear I must have seen dozens and dozens of houses with hearts hanging from their windows, doors and gates,” she said in the post.
“All made of painted perforated metal or wicker. They all looked huge, maybe a foot in diameter.
“Some of them were pretty cool, I suppose, but I couldn’t help but wonder when I missed that particular memo.”
The woman then asked other parents on the forum if anyone else had noticed this or if it was just something people living in this “middle-class suburb of a pretty dull city” did.
The post was flooded with responses, as people rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts – and here, many suggested that the decoration is often used to signal when someone is a swinger.
“It’s what swingers use instead of pampas grass these days,” said one user.
“You obviously live in a very friendly area. Of course, it’s possible that not everything I typed is true.”
However, the joke made its way to X (formerly known as Twitter), with many claiming that wicker hearts are in fact a symbol for couples who like to get horny with other couples.
