WITH warmer weather (hopefully) upon us, many people will be looking forward to spending more time in their gardens.
One woman shared how her outdoor space had no privacy and was ignored by several neighboring houses until she found a solution.
Becky, who posts below @becky_brown_grand_ideasshared how she transformed her garden by planting cherry laurel trees for privacy.
She wrote: “How we got out of this – being completely ignored and without privacy.
“We plant cherry laurel trees.”
Becky told how they had previously added five £250 cherry trees to the back fence and some small olive trees to the front.
She then showed off her garden three years later and showed how it had a “complete privacy screen.”
The woman continued: “Privacy and we think they look great too.
“The fence and trellis are up to 2m and there is no limit to the height of the trees.
“Our neighbors I didn’t mind – the trees give everyone extra privacy.”
Many people were impressed by his privacy hack, and his video racked up over 5,000 likes.
One person wrote: “This is what I’m going to need… my son bought the house next door for me.”
Another added: “Great job. It looks incredible.”
However, people were quick to comment on how trees can affect sunlight in neighbors’ gardens.
Becky replied: “No – it’s a south-facing garden, so the shade from the trees is always on our garden and not on the neighbours.”
Others wondered if the trees had grown in other people’s gardens.
The homeowner responded, “No – there is a space between the fence and the trees – trees never overhang the neighbors space.”
How high can a privacy garden fence be?
DESPITE what many people think that a garden fence can be up to 100m high, you need to obtain planning permission for any fence over 2m high.
Any fence less than 2m does not need planning permission.
However, there are some complications with this.
If you are considering front garden fencing, restrictions dictate that fencing along a driveway can be a maximum of 1m or 3ft.
You would need to get planning permission to put a truss on a 2m fence.
But, if any plant you grow on that trellis exceeds 2m, you do not need to obtain a license to grow the plant.
