A MOTHER has opened up about her regrets over her daughter’s name.
She explained that her plan to choose something unique backfired.
Editor One_potato_two shared the baby’s name in a post.
“I regret the name I chose for my daughter,” she wrote.
“My daughter is 5 years old and I named her Emberly, but I call her Emmy.
“At the time, I gave it a name that I thought was really cool and unique because I was named after a children’s book author I’ve loved since childhood (Ed Emberley).”
The mother explained that it was not the name itself that she had doubts about, but rather the fact that other children had similar names.
“But now there are so many kids nicknamed Emmy after other Em___ names,” she said.
“I really wish I had called her one of my favorite names instead of trying to come up with something unique.
“I wish I had called her Daisy or Sadie or Rosie. I wish I could change that, but it doesn’t really work that way.”
Viewers, however, tried to reassure her that the name was still as unique as she had hoped.
“I think it’s cool when someone with a common nickname has an unexpected full name,” said one commenter.
“Like Annie to Andromeda or Lizzie to Lizard (well, you get the idea).”
Others asked her not to stress about the name as they didn’t think it was a problem.
“Aren’t you doing the same thing you did before you nominated her? Worrying about what’s ‘unique’ and not what you actually like,” said one commenter.
“Names aren’t SSN, it’s okay to share them with others and Emmy isn’t even a very common nickname, so I doubt this will be a problem for your daughter.
I really wish I had called her one of my favorite names instead of trying to come up with something unique.

“Even though Emmy has become super popular, she still has an unusual name that she can always start using.”
The Redditor explained that she felt like she had made a mistake, going against her initial instinct.
She encouraged mothers to follow their instinct when choosing names for their babies.
“I’m not really worried about the popularity of it,” she said.
“I just like other names better and wish I had chosen a name I love instead of something unique.
“I’m bringing this up mostly as food for thought if anyone is thinking about baby names. Choose what you love!”
