And if you run out of the cheap buy, you can get it for just £2.49 – yes, you heard that correctly.

Weeds have the annoying ability to thrive in areas of the garden with moisture and little sunlight.

But if you want a weed-free garden this summer, you’ll be thrilled to know that your laundry detergent will do the trick—yes, you heard that correctly.

After seeing recommendations about using white vinegar and salt for gravel weeds, a woman named Suzie Briggs turned to social media for advice.

Posting on the Gardening Tips and Tips page on Facebook, the gardening enthusiast said: “I’ve been seeing a lot of posts lately about using white vinegar and salt to kill weeds.

“I have a gravel-covered path and I can’t control the weeds, even using the herbicide recommended for paths. Would they work in the unit or is there something better?

“There are no other plants nearby and it’s not like I’m going to plant anything in the way future.”

But while many group members agreed that these two basic kitty products “work well,” they recommended a “better” household product — laundry detergent.

One user advised: “I used to use salt in my alley and it works, but laundry soap was better for me.”

A second wrote: “I’ve had success with cheap washing powder and boiling water.”

He advised: “If you’re on a budget, there’s an inexpensive way to keep weeds under control. If you want to remove persistent unwanted plants from paths or patios, try using washing powder. It’s a super easy way to banish weeds. weeds once and for all.”

He recommended: “Strong chemical herbicides, although effective, can often be harmful to your patio surface, especially if it is made of delicate stone.

“Laundry soap offers a gentler option that shouldn’t damage your patio surface but effectively kills weeds.

“Plus, laundry detergent is a common household item, making it much more accessible and affordable than chemical herbicides.”

Laundry soap contains boron, which is toxic to plants.

As a result, when the cleaning product comes into contact with the weeds, they wither and die.
