A mum has hit back after people criticized her family’s caravan holidays as being ‘cheap and ordinary’.

Abbie Milburn took to social media to show off her stylish Haven caravan and prove once and for all that there’s nothing ordinary about choosing to holiday at home.

After posting a video of her family’s trip to Haven, a chain of holiday parks in the UK, some trolls criticized the mother for not flying somewhere sunny.

But Abbie didn’t accept it and fought back by showing what it’s really like inside the caravan she booked.

The mother explained that she paid for a gold caravan, which is one of the most premium ones offered at Haven parks, and said it was “absolutely stunning”.

Not only was it completely spotless, but all the kitchen utensils and furniture looked new.

Equipped with a large kitchen that included a full-sized fridge, oven and dining table, plus plenty of space for the little ones to run around on rainy days – the caravan looked better than many hotel rooms.

But it wasn’t just the luxurious space that convinced Abbie to live in a caravan.

“Speaking from experience, and I’m sure many other parents can relate, they are absolutely perfect.

“This holiday had so much to [my son] Noah to do and he was living his best life,” she said.

UK staycations are also the perfect option for dog owners, Abbie added.

Many caravan parks offer pet-friendly accommodation, so you can take your four-legged friend along to enjoy some beach walks and some fresh air.

And although caravan holidays can be an economical option for families, they aren’t always as cheap as people expect.

As Abbie, her partner and their 20-month-old son enjoyed their stay during term time, they were able to get a cheaper deal than usual.

“During school holidays Holidays in paradise are very expensive,” she said.

So not the ‘cheap and common’ opportunity the trolls planned for her.

After sharing their experience on TikTok, others agreed that caravan holidays are underrated.

One commented: “Caravan holidays are the best, don’t explain yourself to anyone.”

A second agreed: “The best holidays I’ve ever had were in refuges or parks and we’ve also been taken to Egypt, Spain etc.

“Nothing compares to a caravan holiday!”

Another person wrote: “We have been vacationing at Haven with our kids for 10 years and we love it!

“I can’t understand why people hate them, I did that too when I was a kid!”

Meanwhile, someone else agreed with Abbie’s point that they aren’t always cheap.

They wrote: “They definitely aren’t cheap, it cost us £1,400 for a week in August this year, and that’s just the caravan!”

Why caravan holidays are so underrated

Caravan park holidays are a staple in Britain. And with the cost of living crisis wreaking havoc on British stock exchanges, more of us are turning to them in search of an affordable break.

Josie O’Brien, senior digital writer at Fabulous, explains why she thinks caravan holidays are seriously underrated…

“When I was a child, my mother used to collect £9.50 holiday vouchers from The Sun. She used them to book a few nights at a caravan park during the school holidays.

“As an adult, I fully appreciate the convenience of a humble caravan holiday. No passport problems, no luggage limits and no standard hotel breakfast of stale toast and gray eggs.

“I still love caravan holidays as an adult. In a world where we do everything for grandma, a caravan park takes you back to basics. There’s no obligation to dress up, no stress about going on a million picturesque excursions in a week and I don’t feel disturbed in tourist spots like I do abroad.

“I love going to the coastal caravan parks and walking along the beach parade. My highlight is always the fresh mussels, ice cream and classic pubs for an afternoon drink.

“And then, of course, there is the cost. Staying in a caravan is definitely a lot cheaper than my international travel.

“Without expensive hotel bills and the ability to prepare my own meals, I’m spending hundreds of dollars less than I would abroad.

“I’ve had some of my best and most relaxing caravan holidays. Maybe one day I’ll buy my own.”
