Choosing a baby’s name can be an extremely difficult task, which often leads to disputes between the expectant parents.

You want to choose something that is unique and meaningful, but not something so eccentric that the child is at risk of being bullied.

Looking for advice on naming his unborn child, a dad-to-be has revealed he’s a fan of a name inspired by a comic book.

However, he revealed that his girlfriend and everyone else he has talked to hate the name.

On Reddit, the father-to-be said: “My girlfriend and I are thinking about baby names.

“I always wanted to name my first son Thorgal.

“It comes from a comic book that my grandmother used to buy me and that was mainly sold in France.

“We both come from Normandy, a French region that was settled by the Vikings in the 10th century, so I thought a Viking name would make some sense.

“However, my girlfriend hates it and most people I asked hate it too.

I named my baby after a wild dog – people openly torment me and the nurses at the hospital laughed, it really suits her

“So, I’d like your opinion on whether that name is so terrible?”

The post was flooded with responses from users, many of whom shared the same opinion as the man’s girlfriend.

One person said: “In all honesty, it sounds like an infection or even an alternative name for Gollum.”

A second person said: “Don’t give your child that horrible name.

The struggle to choose a baby name

CHLOE Morgan, senior writer at Fabulous, revealed her dilemma when choosing a name for her baby…

At 35 weeks pregnant, by far the trickiest part of pregnancy for me over the last few months (minus the insomnia and countless nighttime breaks!) has been trying to decide on the baby’s name.
The dilemmas are endless…
My partner and I had a private exam to find out the sex as early as possible – partly because we thought it would make naming babies so much easier because we would only have to create a list of names for one gender instead of two.
How wrong we were…
I was absolutely thrilled to learn I was expecting the girl I’d always dreamed of, but being one of the last friends to get pregnant, I’ve had countless conversations over the years with excited friends discussing their top baby names. …something I wish I could go back in time and not hear.
With every friend mentioning at least 10 possible nicknames, I can’t help but feel that several are now off-limits, even though I know it’s something none of them would mind in the slightest – it’s a total turn-off for me!
The debate comes up again and again on social media forums – can you choose the same name that was a “potential” for a friend’s baby?
It’s a very divisive subject and opinions are always mixed… and I don’t want to be THAT person.
While some will argue that there are thousands of other names to choose from, others will say that you need to choose YOUR favorite… after all, there is no guarantee that this person will have another child.
Then there’s also the matter of finding a name you love… only to look it up online and read one negative review among hundreds of positive ones that you just can’t get rid of.
I made this same mistake when I fell in love with a certain name (I won’t reveal it because I don’t want to ruin it for others!)…only to have someone point out that it is constantly autocorrected on a phone to something quite rude. So, we went back to the drawing board.
There are only five weeks left and it looks like our little one will be known as ‘baby gal’ for a while longer!

“It looks like it belongs to an ogre from a children’s book.”

A third said: “It looks like a plague.”

A fourth said: “It looks like a fungal athlete’s foot cream.”

A fifth added: “It’s a horrible name. You can find a better Viking name.”

A sixth chimed in: “No, it’s really ugly. Don’t do that”.
