So if fruit flies have entered your home looking for food and you’re not sure how to get rid of them, you’ll need to get this checked out.

And if you’re on a budget, you’ll be pleased to know you won’t have to go out and spend money on expensive cleaning products—as this two-ingredient solution is great for anyone trying to save money.

Even better, you won’t have to spend hours on your hands and knees scrubbing kitchen surfaces, because thanks to professional cleaner Lynsey Crombie, this trick couldn’t be simpler.

Fortunately, Lynsey Crombie, aka the Queen from Clean, you have a natural alternative to keep flies away – for good.

The cleaning lover, who is also a best-selling author, said: “Getting rid of fruit flies is easier than it seems with my really simple homemade trap.

“The best part is that it uses just two ingredients and a few common household items, eliminating pesky fruit flies naturally and easily.”

If you want to make your own homemade fruit fly trap, you will need: litter cider vinegar, washing up liquid, adhesive filma hair elastic or bobble and a jelly or glass jar.

Apple cider vinegar and washing up liquid are effective solutions for killing fruit flies as these pests will be attracted to the strong smell, which is very similar to the smell of rotting fruit.

Normally, fruit flies land on the surface of the liquid to feed on it, but the detergent reduces the surface tension, causing the flies to immediately go under the liquid and drown.

All you need to do is put about 40 ml of apple cider vinegar in an old jar and add a few drops of dish soap.

Lysney explained: “Flies are attracted to the smell of apple cider vinegar because they love fermenting fruit.

“They get into the holes in the plastic film, check the vinegar, and then get stuck in the soap. It’s a clean and quick way to get rid of fruit flies in just a few days.”

Common Garden Pests

Common garden pests don’t need to be a cause for alarm. If you can identify them, you can work to get rid of them and prevent them from returning.

Aphids (green fly, black fly)

Aphids are extremely common and can affect plant growth. They have tiny, soft, pear-shaped bodies and are usually green or black. You may spot them clustered on the stems of tender shoots – look under the leaves in particular – or you may find a sticky substance on your plants that reveals the aphids have been there sucking the sap.

White fly

These small, white-winged insects are related to aphids, only 1 or 2 mm long, and look very similar to white moths as adults. They can be found on the underside of the leaves, preferring younger, fresher leaves. They fly away in groups when you disturb them. Its life cycle lasts just three weeks, which means an infestation can occur very quickly.

Slugs

An unmissable body with a soft appearance, as well as small sensory tentacles on the head. Slugs move on a muscular foot. Its scale ranges from surprisingly small to terrifyingly large; Limax cinereoniger species can comfortably grow beyond 20 cm in length.

Cabbage moth caterpillar

Cabbage moth caterpillars happily enter the hearts of vegetables. The caterpillars are distinguished by shades of yellow or brownish green, without hair.

Cochineal

Scale insects are small, oval-shaped insects that have a white, powdery wax coating. There are several different species, many of which have what appear to be legs coming out of their sides and back. In the initial phase of life, it is perfectly possible to confuse them with fungi and not even recognize them as insects.

You should then cover the jar tightly with plastic wrap and secure it over the top of the jar with an elastic band or hair tie.

Then carefully poke small holes in the plastic wrap with a toothpick, but make sure the holes are not too big, otherwise there is a chance that flies will be able to fly out.

Keep pests away all summer long

IF you want to ensure your home is pest-free this summer, here’s what you need to know.

Wasps and hornets – I hate the smell of peppermint oil, so spraying it liberally on your patio or porch can help keep them away.

Moths – Acidic household white vinegar is effective in deterring moths. Soak some kitchen paper in vinegar and leave it in the closet as a deterrent.

flying ants – herbs and spices such as cinnamon, mint, chili pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, cloves or garlic act as deterrents.

Mosquitoes – Plants, herbs, and essential oil fragrances can help deter mosquitoes inside and out. Try eucalyptus, lavender, and lemongrass.

Lynsey added: “Then leave the trap open for a few days in areas where fruit flies accumulate.

“Take it down every few days and update with a new solution if necessary. So easy and no more fruit flies.”

If you don’t have any apple cider vinegar in your cupboard, you can buy a bottle for just £1.40 from Asda.

And if you’ve run out of washing up liquid or don’t want to use your fancy stuff for this hack, you can pick up a cheap bottle for just 55p, also at Asda.
