PAYING for your wedding can be expensive, but a bride-to-be has told how creative she got when it came to buying her dress.
Jennifer Cannon has revealed how she started selling tuna sandwiches on the side to raise money for her dress, and it didn’t take long to reach her goal.
Jennifer met her Navy husband, Paul, online in January 2001 and, after a whirlwind romance, they got engaged in April of that year.
The bride-to-be, who at the time was working as a transaction coordinator, started finding wedding dresses and it didn’t take long to find the dress of her dreams.
The couple had a small budget for their wedding, and when Jennifer saw the price of $700 (£562), she knew she would have to get creative.
Speaking with Business Insidershe said: “It may not seem like much, but to me at the time it might as well have cost $7,000 (£5,627).
“I had a mortgage and recently changed jobs. Money was tight, but I knew I could do it.
A colleague gave her the idea of selling tuna wraps at work to raise money for her dream dress.
Her tasty sandwiches were a big hit when she brought them over one day, thanks to her special recipe.
It consisted of a “fresh twist on tuna salad,” including albacore tuna, mayonnaise, scallions, toasted almonds, cilantro, romaine lettuce, a drizzle of cilantro, and pepita salad dressing, wrapped in a flour tortilla.
Jennifer worked for a “big name agency” at the time, with over 100 agents in The officeso there were plenty of customers to sell to at lunch.
After getting “the green light” to whip up her sandwiches at work, she decided to bring them in every Thursday.
She added: “Before I knew it, there was a buzz in the office about ‘Jen’s Tasty Tuna Wraps.’
“Agents started calling or stopping by my desk days in advance to place orders.”
She charged £4.82 per sandwich and ate one deadline orders arrive by the end of Wednesdays.

To meet demand, Jennifer had to wake up at 5:30 am – three hours before work – to prepare the ingredients.
Jennifer added: “Within a few months, I had the money I needed to buy the dress, plus some extra to invest in my husband’s wedding ring.”
