WHEN it comes to wedding events, there is one important rule for guests in attendance: don’t outshine the bride and wear white.
However, one woman decided to do just that and donned a Fashion Nova dress that was not only white but also see-through.
The clothing brand uploaded a few photos of its customer wearing the dress and added: “GRWM [get ready with me] To go to a friend’s bridal shower in an elegant lace maxi dress.
Although she looked unquestionably stunning, several people were surprised by her bold dress choice, and the photos were shared to Reddit where internet users had their say on the design.
The uploader wrote: “I know it’s just marketing but damn.
“Plus, this would be a bit much for even the bride to wear to a pre-event.
“However, it is no surprise for Fashion Nova.”
She added: “This girl in this dress has been posted here for the last few weeks.
“She actually wore this to a wedding and posted it on her own SM [social media] while wearing it haha.”
Many people were quick to criticize the dress, as although it was beautiful, they claimed it was inappropriate for a bridal event.
One wrote: “Elegance means not showing your underwear.”
Another added: “That dress is tacky. And there’s no way a normal person would wear that outside the house.”
A third said: “I didn’t even wear white AT MY bridal shower.”
One person commented that it looked like something Kanye West’s partner would wear, following a series of his racy public looks.
They wrote: “It is an original by Bianca Censori.”
We previously shared how a wedding planner was fed up after noticing four women turned up to a ceremony wearing white-hued dresses.
Her irritation was so great that she couldn’t bite her tongue.
Why You Should Never Wear White to a Wedding
JOSIE Griffiths, deputy editor of Fabulous, who is getting married this year, shared her views on wearing white to a wedding…
Josie Griffiths said: I tend to consider myself low maintenance from a fashion and beauty perspective.
I can leave the house in 20 minutes in the morning, I usually do my mascara on the bus or subway, and I spend my work days at home in my gym gear.
But when it comes to my wedding this summer, everything has gone out the window.
Professional hair and makeup is scheduled for 8am, I’ve changed into all my wedding dress, bought designer shoes, and even bought a second dress for the evening.
So when I think about someone wearing a white dress on my big day, yes, I think I would be very angry.
The idea of not wearing a white dress goes back to not wanting to ‘outshine the bride’.
Which, to be fair, is unlikely. Not only did she spend a small fortune on the day’s look, but she’s also one of only two people in attendance who knows (and hopefully likes) all of the guests.
So the main risk you run is looking really silly – and being gossiped about by strangers.
A wedding guest I met in October 2022 is still etched in my mind. I still don’t know which was worse: the fact that she was so drunk that she was bumping into people on the dance floor, or her decision to wear a white dress, which was arguably made better by the glass of red wine she drank drunk. She went down alone.
I know weddings are expensive for everyone and it’s fair if you don’t want to buy a whole new outfit – I’m all for repurposing what’s already in your wardrobe.
Just avoid the white dress for the bride’s sake – and yours.
Wedding planner Cari Izaguirre said there’s no reason for a guest to show up wearing the same color as the bride.
Talking about etiquette, she said in the clip: “You don’t wear white to a wedding. Or a light ivory. You just don’t do that.
Outside a reception she hosted, she said there were four people with boundary-pushing looks.
