A WOMAN has criticized her cousin for wanting to give her baby a “tragedy” name that she thinks people simply won’t understand.

The anonymous woman turned to Reddit to desperately seek advice after being unable to speak to her relative about the “atrocious” nickname she chose for her son.

The horrified woman shared the story on the popular “tragedeigh” thread, where users often post names that are “deliberately misspelled or completely made up to seem more unique than they really are.”

She explained how her cousin liked the traditional name Phoebe – but wanting to add her “unique” twist to it, she had to spell it Feabe.

The woman wrote: “I tried to convince her that people won’t understand how to say it, and the traditional spelling looks much nicer, but she has a strong mind.

”She says that no one will read it differently and uses the names Lia and Lea as examples.

”I just don’t think it’s the same thing.

”But tell me, is it a tragedy as I think it is? Will the child be bullied?”

It’s more than a tragedy. The poor boy will be called Weak or Febreeze

According to the Redditor, she spent several weeks desperately trying to dissuade her cousin and convince her to keep the original spelling.

However, with her due date quickly approaching, she begins to fear more and more for the baby.

She added: “I’m struggling here to try to find ways to convince her to change this.

”I texted her about the Phineas and Ferb reference the kid was going to get, and she just said she loved the show as a kid.

This baby doesn’t have a fighting chance,’ trolls say as mom-to-be, 63, films chaotic gender reveal with husband, 26

“My cousin and I are super close, like sisters, so any suggestions? It also doesn’t help that her middle name is spelled Feiey, like Fae for Fairy. So Feabe Feiey.”

Sharing their thoughts on the situation, one user said: “Wouldn’t Fea be a feminine form of feo, Spanish for ugly?

”Even if not, is there any chance of you convincing your cousin of this?”

Another person chimed in:

Are unique baby names worth it?

The Fabulous deputy editor reveals the turmoil she faced with her own name growing up.

When I was a kid, all I wanted was one of those personalized keychains with my name on it.

But no joy, the closest I could find was Rosie, Joseph (not very good for a girl) and Joanne.

Josie is short for Josephine, which is a French name, and I managed to reach my 20s without ever meeting anyone who shared it.

When I try to introduce myself to people, I get all sorts of random things – like Tracey and Stacey – which can be really annoying.

Although I’ve come into contact with a few Josies over the past year – there seem to be a few of us around my age – it’s still a much rarer name than most of my friends.

Overall I don’t mind it, at least it’s not rude or poorly written.

And that means I can get away with ‘doing a Cheryl’ and just referring to myself as Josie.

I’m getting married this year and some friends are shocked that I’m changing my surname, as it’s not seen as very cool or feminist to do so these days, but I explain to them that I’m not as attached to Griffiths as I always said’ hi, it’s Josie’ when calling a friend.

I think it’s good to be unique and I will definitely try to replicate that when naming my own children.

It’s the rude names you have to watch out for, so after nine years as a lifestyle journalist, I’ll definitely avoid them.

Another user added: “I would pronounce Feabe as Feeb. Maybe Fabe is a distant second guess.”

A third commented: “Any primary school teacher will tell you that Phoebe spelled Feabe will be teased like Flea and when she’s older?

”Worse still, Fee is for sale to the highest bidder. Children are cruel. Girls are more cruel.”

Another Redditor commented: “It’s more than a tragedy. The poor boy will be called Weak or Febreeze, and even well-meaning people will say that incorrectly.”
