A WOMAN has criticized her parents for giving her an ’embarrassing’ name that makes her everyday life extremely awkward.

The young woman explained that not only is her name constantly mispronounced, but she also gets strange looks even when she goes to doctors.

The anonymous woman, who took to social media to speak openly about her painful nickname, explained that her father chose her name when she was a teenager.

Sharing her story, the woman, whose name is Dystini, explained everything on Reddit, leaving many with their mouths open.

Posting on tragedy topic, Dystini revealed: “My name is Dystini, pronounced like Destinyjust written in the worst possible way.

“Apparently it was supposed to be Destinee, but clearly that spelling made a lot more sense.”

Not knowing what’s worse, she continued, “I’ve heard my name mispronounced in every way you can imagine, when the assistants at the doctor’s office stare too long at the next patient’s name, I know it’s my name they’re trying to find out.

“I’ve pretty much stopped correcting people unless they ask me if they’re correct.”

Dystini then explained where his name came from, adding: “My name is Dystini because of my father, who chose it for his future first daughter at 14, after babysitting a two-year-old named Destiny, who was raised by some hippie friends he had or something.

“And so that when people go out with me they can say ‘I have a date with Dystini’.”

Dystini later revealed: “My father chose the name, but my mother spelled it.

“She was only 18 when she had me and passed away at 26.

I regret my one-year-old daughter’s name – I was stressed so my husband chose that name, but my whole family made jokes

“That’s it Cool Now that I’m not so aware of it, it’s like it’s the only thing she gave me that I can always see.

“To be honest, I don’t even like my name that much to begin with.

“It’s a name that I feel doesn’t grow on you – like it’s weird being a lady called Dystini.”

REDDIT USER REACTION

Reddit users flocked to the comments to share their thoughts on the woman’s name.

While some users encouraged her to legally change the spelling of her name, others laughed at the fact that her father included a “dad joke” in his name.

One user said: “Why not legally switch to Destiny? You don’t owe it to your father to live with that spelling.

Meanwhile, a second user added: “OY makes it sound like it should sound like Distiny instead of Destiny.”

The struggle to choose a baby name

CHLOE Morgan, senior writer at Fabulous, revealed her dilemma when choosing a name for her baby…

At 35 weeks pregnant, by far the trickiest part of pregnancy for me over the last few months (minus the insomnia and countless nighttime breaks!) has been trying to decide on the baby’s name.
The dilemmas are endless…
My partner and I had a private exam to find out the sex as early as possible – partly because we thought it would make naming babies so much easier because we would only have to create a list of names for one gender instead of two.
How wrong we were…
I was absolutely thrilled to learn I was expecting the girl I’d always dreamed of, but being one of the last friends to get pregnant, I’ve had countless conversations over the years with excited friends discussing their top baby names. …something I wish I could go back in time and not hear.
With every friend mentioning at least 10 possible nicknames, I can’t help but feel that several are now off-limits, even though I know it’s something none of them would mind in the slightest – it’s a total turn-off for me!
The debate comes up again and again on social media forums – can you choose the same name that was a “potential” for a friend’s baby?
It’s a very divisive subject and opinions are always mixed… and I don’t want to be THAT person.
While some will argue that there are thousands of other names to choose from, others will say that you need to choose YOUR favorite… after all, there is no guarantee that this person will have another child.
Then there’s also the matter of finding a name you love… only to look it up online and read one negative review among hundreds of positive ones that you just can’t get rid of.
I made this same mistake when I fell in love with a certain name (I won’t reveal it because I don’t want to ruin it for others!)…only to have someone point out that it is constantly autocorrected on a phone to something quite rude. So, we went back to the drawing board.
There are only five weeks left and it looks like our little one will be known as ‘baby gal’ for a while longer!

A third user wrote: “At first I read it as Distiny. After I thought about it, it seems like it could be Diestiny too.

While someone else wrote: “It looks like an antifungal cream.”

Another user joked: “You look like a plate of pasta. DYSTINI BOLOGNESE!”

“I’m not going to lie, I defended Stacey as a name for our daughter. Because then I could tell people that Stacey’s mom is in charge.”
