A MAN has revealed how he saved more than £1,000 a month after building a tiny house on a bicycle.

Ryan took to his TikTok page to share a video showing off his unique accommodation, after revealing he was inspired to invent something to help those living in homeless camps.

The lack of affordable housing in Canada has resulted in a growing number of people living in tents or informal shelters because they have nowhere else to go.

But with your “social project” – Tinytinyhomes.ca – Ryan hopes to make the bike houses to help keep camp residents “mobile and away from the parks.”

The project does not yet have financing and is in the development phase.

The construction cost Ryan around £2,800, but once completed it became an independent property.

It also has a toilet, which is under the bed, as well as a microwave and desk.

The sofa transforms into a comfortable bed and there are solar panels on the roof that allow you to have energy inside.

The only thing the house doesn’t have is running water.

The average price of a property in Ontario, where Ryan lives, would be around £1,100 a month for something of similar size with bills.

So it’s no wonder people are interested in exploring their concept further and even seeing if they themselves might be eligible for one of the homes.

“I want one. Take my money,” one wrote.

“Imagine FREE RENT,” said another.

“This could put a lot of people in a less precarious situation,” praised a third.

“A place to rest and be safe, and even have transportation to possible work opportunities.”

“Minimalist living right there,” wrote someone else.

“This is so cool!” another gushed.

“Damn. I like this!! Self-built?” someone asked.

Tiny House FAQs

The tiny house movement started in the US before gaining popularity in the UK.

What is a tiny house?

Tiny homes are small, fully equipped spaces designed to lead a more sustainable, off-grid lifestyle. Although they vary in size and shape, tiny houses tend to be between 15 and 50 square meters in capacity, are made from sustainable materials, and are easier – and cheaper – to maintain than traditional brick homes.

Are tiny houses legal in UK?

As long as the tiny house does not exceed 19.8m x 6.7m in size, it is defined as a caravan in UK law. Therefore, tiny homes are classified as legal additional living space.

Can you get a mortgage for a tiny house?

The small size and relatively low cost of tiny homes means they are generally not considered eligible for a mortgage. However, there are many options for taking out a loan to finance your dreams of a perfect mobile home.

Others even pointed out how good the house was “soundproofed” – noting that traffic and general hustle and bustle noises stopped immediately when cycling home.

“Amazing setup,” wrote one.

“Literally my dream,” agreed another.

As a third said: “That’s cool man! You’re winning at life!”
