Arthur He was already 10 years into his prison sentence when a friend put the pair in touch.

They began exchanging letters and receiving daily phone calls, until they finally met in person six months later.

Six months later, Arthur proposed and, shortly after, the two were married.

The pair have a one-year-old son named Zion and are now expecting their second child.

Monique also has two other children from a previous relationship.

Due to the laws of her native California, Monique can sometimes spend the night in jail with Arthur.

Speaking to Truly TV, she said: “I made sure to plan the visit around my ovulation and I was definitely successful.

“We just found out we’re pregnant again. So number four is on the way.”

Arthur’s release date is scheduled for 2053, however, Monique is hopeful that he will be released sooner.

She said: “His first parole date is 2033, so there is a strong possibility he will return home.”

I spent £60k on my husband when he was in prison – people say he’s using me but I know it’s true love

Monique revealed that her family members have doubts about the relationship.

She said, “They think I’ll get used to it when he comes home.”

“Some family members disapprove because they know the victim’s family.”

How do conjugal visits work?

A conjugal visit is a scheduled period in which a prisoner may spend several hours or days in private with a visitor, usually his or her significant other.

The reason for these visits is to preserve family ties and increase the chances of success in the prisoner’s return to normal life.

It also acts as an incentive for prisoners to comply with the prison’s day-to-day rules.

Conjugal visits usually take place in a trailer or small cabin.

They are currently not permitted for UK prisoners.

Monique added that she also received a lot of hate online from trolls, but was undeterred by it.

She said: “I don’t really care about the judgment I get because I’m so in love and involved with Arthur – nothing they say matters.”

The mother of four added that her own mother also had relationships with men behind bars, something she confessed she never understood when she was younger.

Speaking to her mother, she said: “At the time I didn’t really like it or understand it.

“I think when I was younger, I always questioned why you were with someone in prison and I thought you should be with someone who treats you the way you should be treated.”

However, her mother’s past relationships have not left Monique with any cause for concern.

She said: “It’s the best relationship I’ve ever had.

“To those who judge our relationship, I would say don’t judge a book by its cover.”
