My balcony was so embarrassing I had to close my eyes every time I saw it… Fixed it for £5 and it looks amazing

A WOMAN has wowed people with her “flawless” front porch makeover – which she achieved with a bit of paint.

DIY mom Kylie Katich from the US hated the front of her family’s house so much that she closed her eyes whenever she was forced to enter.

The porch, which she described as “sad and embarrassing,” was “the ugliest thing” on the property, full of cracks and stains that she was desperate to get rid of.

But, growing increasingly fed up with the sorry state of the porch, the parents decided one morning to completely renovate it — without shelling out for any fancy tools and equipment.

Before the shine could begin, Kylie – who shared the makeover on TikTok – gave the concrete floor a good clean with a pressure washer which got rid of all the dirt and grime.

To give her a fresh start, her father also caulked the cracks “so it looked like a blank slate,” she explained in the video now viral.

Once the surface was ready, Kylie poured an entire can of concrete-safe paint and brushed on evenly, ensuring a smooth finish throughout.

After the porch was painted white – which she knew someone would call a “homeowner special” – Kylie took a piece of wood and cut it 16 x 16.

The DIY lover used this as a stencil to create the trendy checkerboard pattern on the floor, also ensuring she had a large ruler on the side ”to ensure the pattern repeat lined up perfectly”.

”Spending all this time making sure the pattern was perfect with the stencil and ruler, I felt like I didn’t need masking tape.

“But I found that these little sponge brushes were the best for creating straight lines,” said Kylie, who described the process as “therapeutic.”

“That sounds so tedious, but it really wasn’t. Making the lines straight was so satisfying, I loved every second of it.

All enchanted by the shine, Kylie – who painted the squares a beautiful sand color – couldn’t believe the results.

”It was so, so bad before and looking at it afterwards it looks like I laid tile, it’s so beautiful – there are no more cracks or stains, and those lines are clean.”

After the paint was completely dry, Kylie, who posts under the username @kyliekatichput all the furniture back, also adding stunning potted plants.
