A NAN has been branded “mean” after telling her size 20 granddaughter she looked “huge” in her dream wedding dress.

With her big day approaching, young mum Cassie took her mum and grandma to the wedding boutique to find the perfect dress – but her eldest was giving stern feedback.

Cassie, who is a size 20, runs a successful wedding planning business and was trying to marry her partner Simon, who also helps her run the business.

The three visited Curvy Brides Boutique, where Cassie looked at some dress options for the romantic ceremony – before modeling them for her mum Cathy and grandmother Janet.

One of the options included a stunning long dress with stunning pearl detailing and a waist-cinching corset-style back.

Looking like a real-life princess, the bride couldn’t believe her eyes – just like her grandmother and mother, who thought she looked “beautiful.”

But after a successful attempt at the first glam number, things took a sharp turn – for the worse – when Cassie jumped at the second option.

This was a sleeveless A-line dress covered in tiny gemstones, with both stylists advising her to alter it to a sweetheart neckline to make the outfit even more flattering.

Impressed by her daughter’s beauty, Cathy said she loved the dress – however, Janet was struggling to see the vision as she immediately shared her brutal opinion.

“You look huge,” she commented immediately after shaking her head.

“That makes you look really big, Cas,” the nanny couldn’t help but leave Say Yes to the Dress viewers gobsmacked.

However, luckily, the bride-to-be managed to hit back, saying: ”Let’s face it, I’m not a size 10.”

Seeing how much Cassie wanted the glamorous dress, the team of stylists demonstrated the small changes needed to ensure the dress fit better.

”You have to take off the zipper and put on a corset, one of the recognized fashion professionals the video.

“It could work,” she said before having a face-to-face conversation with her brutal grandmother.

”I can’t make you love, she can’t make you love.

“But she can’t ignore a feeling she hears,” the boutique expert said, pointing to her heart.

Despite what her grandmother thought of the wedding outfit, Cassie didn’t seem to take it seriously, revealing that she could imagine walking down the aisle in the dress.

“I’m talking about shiny shoes and flowers and big braids and mommy crying.

”I just love everything – and it sparkles and shines.”

Wedding dress trends 2024

Sophie Creed, bridal designer and founder of bridal brand e&w Couture, shared this year’s most popular wedding dress designs.

Sustainable Chic

Bridal fashion in 2024 is embracing a powerful shift toward sustainability, with brides taking a close look at the fabrics being used to make dresses.

Many brides also look to wear a hand-me-down dress or a vintage number.

Boho Happiness

The bohemian aesthetic is simple, relaxed elegance – ideal for relaxed weddings. Whether in the garden, on the beach or under the stars, the boho trend is also great for nature-inspired weddings.

Couples opting for outdoor venues and bohemian-inspired dresses with fluid silhouettes, floral lace and whimsical details that blend with the natural setting. It’s about bringing the romance of the outdoors into your wedding wardrobe.

Bohemian-inspired dresses often feature vintage-inspired lace, flowing sleeves, and ethereal details that stand the test of time.

Satin elegance

Satin wedding dresses are winning the hearts of brides who appreciate the marriage of modern simplicity and classic luxury.

This trend suits weddings that prioritize an elegant and refined aesthetic, making it the ideal choice for formal celebrations, chic weddings in the city or any event where the bride imagines herself in a dress that exudes sophistication and grace.

Bold Romance

Big, bold moderns show a shift in bridal fashion.

This trend is for the bride who dares to be different, breaking with tradition and embracing a vibrant, contemporary aesthetic on the most important day of her life.

Luckily, Janet saw how happy her granddaughter was with the beautiful dress and gave the dress a thumbs up.

”If you want that dress and it’s your dress, I’ll go with you.”

However, social media users were divided – while some agreed with the grandmother’s initial reaction, others were left stunned by her brutal comments.

One TikTok user said: “Nan is evil incarnate and decidedly undesirable.”

Someone else added: ”Trying to look as small as possible shouldn’t be the only reason when choosing a dress. Honestly, I love this dress.

“Nans are WILD,” joked another.

But not everyone resented their grandmother for the nasty comments, as one wrote: “Like her grandmother, I preferred the first dress.

”But what her mother understood instantly was that the only opinion that really mattered was the bride’s and she knew she had found her dress.”

One YouTube viewer wrote: “The first dress was very flattering on her, I agree with the grandmother there.

”But they did a great job with the changes.”
