A mum has told how she transformed her drab garden corner into a little slice of heaven for just £6.43 – all while seven months pregnant.
Annika Jones used a variety of bargains from discount stores like The Range and One Beyond to build a “pea tent” for her three-year-old son.

Sweet peas are beautiful, fluffy flowers—typically in pink, lilac, and white—that are super easy to grow from seeds.
Annika wanted to inject “more color and personality” into the corner of her garden for her nature-mad son.
The 22-year-old spent just £2.99 on bamboo to build the tent shell and 99p on garden wire so her newly planted peas would gradually grow.
She bought five packets of pea seeds for 49p each from The Range, totaling £6.43.
When the peas begin to bloom on the bamboo, a shade tent will be created – hence the name.
“I saw the teepee idea on Pinterest and knew my son would love it as he is a big fan of bugs and bees and it would encourage them,” Annika told Fabulous.
“After planting the sweet pea seeds, my son was eager for them to grow immediately, which made me want to add more around the teepee itself.
“My dad was a landscaper, so I knew what I was doing.”
To elevate the singing even further, the Wrexham-based mum dug shallow trenches to build small flower beds around her tent.
While this step isn’t necessary to create an economical “sweet pea tent,” it certainly adds to the charm while you wait for your flowers to bloom on the bamboo poles.
Annika spent a further £75 on plants and flowers for the decorative beds, which she bought from B&Q, B&M, Home Bargains, The Range and Asda.
She also bought six bags of topsoil from B&Q for £20 to give her new plants a home, as well as spending £16.50 on wooden edging.
“Some of the plants I saved from the reduced section because they were dying,” she says. “But I quickly brought them back to life.”
Carrying out the garden project was very easy for Annika, despite being seven months pregnant.
Gardening Tips and Tricks
“I’m a very practical person, I always like to keep busy”, he adds.
“I always have people telling me to stop and take it easy.
“I took several breaks and needed my partner to help me take the grass out of the wheelbarrow.
“But other than that, I really enjoyed it and hope to do another smaller project before our baby arrives.
“I’m currently taking a year off from my woodworking course at college to have my second child, but I’ll be returning in 2026.”
