DECORATING your home can be a big and expensive job, but there are ways to give your space a boost and even make it look larger on a budget.

This is what Lauryn, also known as @lauryncp on TikTok, did with her hallway when she explained that it was used as a “dump” for washing clothes and other household trinkets.

“Our upstairs landing is very small – it’s literally just a small walkway,” Lauryn it started.

She said there was limited wall space and no natural light due to a lack of windows.

She said this means it “can feel very dark and dirty” in the small space.

“I just wanted to clean up the area and do something with it… I thought it would just be a Cool little project to do,” she said.

She told viewers that she had seen the IKEA mirror hack and wanted to try it out for herself.

She hoped the reflection would draw some light onto the tiny landing.

She started by putting masking tape on the wall to help the paint from bleeding and then covered the wall with Paint Vinyl Matt Emulsion in Steel Smoke from Johnstone, which costs £15 from B&M.

She said she didn’t want her kids to join her on a trip to IKEA – due to it being summer holidays – so she bought some acrylic mirror tiles from TikTok Store.

They can be purchased for just £5 and come in various shapes and sizes to suit your project.

But the hardest part of the project, the mother of five said, was removing the stickers and getting them ready to stick.

“[It’s] a little talk when you have a lot of time nails” she joked.

Stunning hallway makeover on a budget!

Lauryn added that it didn’t take long to do everything, from the tape to the tiles it took “about an hour”.

“I’m really happy with the result,” she said with a clip of her placing a vase in front of the mirrors.

The vase was from Primark and filled with fake foliage.

She concluded by saying that the mirrors definitely helped bring in the light she wanted.

She told Fabulous it cost £30 in total to make the mirrored wall.

Asked how she got the mirrors perfectly symmetrical and spaced, she said in the comments: “I measured and marked, but mostly I watched! I just made sure they lined up with the spirit level.”

Four cheap tricks for renovating homes

YOU don’t have to spend a lot to give a room a new look. Here are five other home improvement hacks you can try.

Kitchen cabinets

One way to completely transform your kitchen for less is to change the look of your kitchen cabinets. There are several different vinyl sidings to choose from, and it’s a quick and easy way to update your home.

Handles

Another thing you can try that won’t cost much is changing the straps. You can buy relatively cheap straps from DIY stores or even charity shops. Adding new ones to your kitchen cabinets or doors in your home can be extremely effective.

Leftovers

Most of us have old, half-used paint cans in the garage, but they are often forgotten. However, there may be enough in the vase to paint a wall in another room and you won’t need to spend a dime.

Gifts

It’s worth checking out your local Facebook Marketplace, or Freecycle, to see what other people are getting rid of. As they say, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. And if someone is planning to renovate a room, they may want to get rid of a sofa or a coffee table, which you can use to give the lounge a new look.

People in the comments discussed how much they loved what Lauryn did – even professionals commenting on how good it turned out.

“I’m a painter and decorator and it looks beautiful [hearts around face emoji]”, wrote one person.

A high compliment indeed!

Another said: “I love the way you created more space and light with the mirrors.

“You gave me the idea to do something similar, since I have little space on my landing.”

“Wow, what a transformation. [It’s] kind [red heart emoji],” wrote another person.

Hats off to Lauryn – it looks so good!
