A mother has told how her husband named his son after a character from his favorite video game and she was “not the biggest fan”.
After revealing the unusual nickname online, many people said she should have put her foot down and said “poor thing” about the son who got the name.

Taking to Redditthe mom shared, “My son’s name is Linkyn.
“So my husband bears full responsibility for this.
“He is a huge gamer and LOVES the Legend of Zelda. He is also Welsh.
“He wanted to name our son Link after the MC from the legend of Zelda games.
“I wasn’t the biggest fan, but I compromised on Lincoln.
“He wanted it to be written so that ‘Link’ was still part of his name, and oy was a tribute to his Welsh heritage.
“The spelling has grown on me over the years, but I still wish we had written it the traditional way.”
Referring to Reddit’s “Tragedeigh” subsection for tragic names that have been “deliberately misspelled or completely made up to seem more unique than they really are,” she asked, “So tell me, is Linkyn a tragedeigh?”
People didn’t hesitate to think of the unusual name.
One wrote: “Yes, sorry, it’s a tragedy,” and another replied: “A very bad tragedy for, in my opinion, opinion. Ufa.”
And one Reddit user commented: “If you have to ask…. Yes, this is absolutely the very definition of tragedy.”
Some said she should have rejected her husband when choosing her name.
One said: “Sorry, no. It’s also your son and you could – no, SHOULD veto the name.
Someone agreed: “Poor boy.”

I think it’s good to be unique and I will definitely try to replicate that when naming my own children.
